Jim Allison (American Football)
James Russell Allison (born March 2, 1943) is a former American football running back in the American Football League. He played college football at El Camino College and San Diego State University. He was drafted with the seventh pick in the 12th round of the 1965 American Football League Draft by the San Diego Chargers and played from 1965 through 1968. Running Back
A running back (RB) is a member of the offensive backfield in gridiron football. The primary roles of a running back are to receive handoffs from the quarterback to rush the ball, to line up as a receiver to catch the ball, and block. There are usually one or two running backs on the field for a given play, depending on the offensive formation. A running back may be a halfback (in certain contexts also referred to as a "tailback" — see below), a wingback or a fullback. A running back will sometimes be called a "feature back" if he is the team's starting running back. 1965 American Football League Draft
The 1965 American Football League draft took place on November 28, 1964. Held via telephone conference call, it remains the only draft in major professional football history to be held without a central location. The NFL draft was held the same day. 1968 AFL Season
The 1968 American Football League season was the ninth regular season of the AFL, and its penultimate season prior to the AFL–NFL merger. The season ended when the New York Jets (11–3) defeated the Oakland Raiders (12–2) in the AFL championship game on December 29 at Shea Stadium in New York City. Two weeks later, the Jets defeated the National Football League's Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III in one of the biggest sports upsets in history. The season was also notable as the inaugural season of the Cincinnati Bengals, which expanded the AFL to ten teams. In anticipation of the merger, all AFL on-field officials wore uniforms similar to those used in the NFL.
