Jessica Gordon Brown
Jessica Mary Gordon Brown (born 25 December 1995) is an English weightlifter. She has represented England at the Commonwealth Games and won a silver medal. Biography Gordon Brown was educated at the University of Brighton, competing in judo and acrobatic gymnastics before turning to weightlifting. As a teenager, she was a double national acrobatic gymnastics champion. In 2021, she won the national weightlifting senior title in her weight category and finished 12th at the World Championships, in the 59kg category. Olympic weightlifting, or Olympic-style weightlifting (officially named Weightlifting), is a sport in which athletes compete in lifting a barbell loaded with weight plates from the ground to overhead, with each athlete trying to successfully lift the heaviest weights. Athletes compete in two specific ways of lifting the barbell overhead: these are the snatch and the clean and jerk. The ''snatch'' is a wide-grip lift, in which the weighted barbell is lifted overhead in one motion. The ''clean and jerk'' is a combination lift, in which the weight is first taken from the ground to the front of the shoulders (the clean), and then from the shoulders to overhead (the jerk). Weightlifting was one of the sports contested at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, held in Birmingham, England. This was the nineteenth staging of weightlifting at the Commonwealth Games since its inclusion in 1950, and the second staging within England specifically. The competition took place between 30 July and 3 August 2022, spread across sixteen weight classes (eight per gender). 2022 Commonwealth Games
The 2022 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XXII Commonwealth Games and commonly known as Birmingham 2022, was an international multi-sport event for members of the Commonwealth of Nations that took place in Birmingham, England between 28 July and 8 August 2022. Birmingham was announced as host on 21 December 2017.
