Jessica Barter
Jessica Barter is a New Zealand architect. In 2017 she was the joint winner of the Wirihana Leadership Award at the Architecture + Women NZ Dulux Awards. Biography Barter originally planned to study medicine, but enrolled to study architecture instead, at the University of Auckland. In 2010, she and Maggie Carroll founded their own architecture firm, Bureaux. Architecture + Women NZ Dulux Awards
The Architecture + Women NZ Dulux Awards is a tri-annual set of awards which recognise the contribution of women to the field of architecture in New Zealand. The awards recognise full bodies of work and community connections. The awards were first made in 2014. In 2020 the awards event was held online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Nominations are invited from the public, and a panel selects finalists in each category. The finalists are invited to an awards dinner where the recipients are announced. Categories The awards are presented in three categories. Wirihana Leadership Award The award is open to all Architecture + Women NZ members who are in their second decade after graduation. The award is named after Moana Wirihana (Te Kawerau ā Maki) whose leadership saw the design and construction of many wharenui (meeting houses) in New Zealand. Venice Biennale of Architecture (in Italian Mostra di Architettura di Venezia) is an international exhibition of architecture from nations around the world, held in Venice, Italy, every other year. It was held on even years until 2018, but 2020 was postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic shifting the calendar to uneven years. It is the architecture section under the overall Venice Biennale and was officially established in 1980, even though architecture had been a part of the Venice Art Biennale since 1968.
