Jerry Roth
Gerald Howard "Jerry" Roth (May 12, 1941 – December 23, 2022) was an American boxing judge. Career Roth was born on 12 May 1941 in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He was married with Bunnie Roth and they have three children together. Roth started his career in 1980 with the Nevada State Athletic Commission. He went one to judge 225 world title fights. In May 2015, Roth announced retirement as a boxing judge. In 2018, Roth was inducted in the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame. Boxing Judge
A boxing judge is responsible for judging the results of a boxing match, with as many as three judges typically present at ringside to score the bout and assign points to the boxers, based on punches that connect, defense, knockdowns, and other, more subjective, measures. At the Olympic or World championship level, there are usually five judges. A boxing match that has not ended in a knockout, technical knockout (TKO) or disqualification (DQ), having reached the limit on the preset number of rounds has "gone the distance" and the fighter with the higher score at the end of the fight is ruled the winner. With three judges, unanimous decisions and split decisions are possible, as are draws. Because of the open-ended style of boxing judging, fights may end with controversial results, in which one of the fighters may believe they have been "robbed" or unfairly denied a victory. Nevada State Athletic Commission
The Nevada State Athletic Commission (also known as the Nevada Athletic Commission or NSAC) regulates all contests and exhibitions of unarmed combat within the state of Nevada, including licensure and supervision of promoters, boxers, kickboxers, mixed martial arts fighters, seconds, ring officials, managers, and matchmakers. The commission is the final authority on licensing matters, having the ability to approve, deny, revoke, or suspend all licenses for unarmed combat. The commission was established in 1941. Nevada Boxing Hall Of Fame
The Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame (abbreviated NVBHOF) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization founded in June 2012 by American sports broadcaster Rich Marotta. The company honors boxers and those in the industry who have significantly contributed to the state of Nevada, and donates proceeds toward Nevada-based/boxing-related charities and causes. In December 2012, an inaugural class of 19 inductees was announced at a press conference in North Las Vegas at former professional boxing referee Richard Steele's boxing gym. Among the inductees were boxers Mike Tyson, Julio César Chávez, Larry Holmes, Oscar De La Hoya, Sugar Ray Leonard, trainers Eddie Futch and Freddie Roach, referees Mills Lane and Joe Cortez, as well promoters Bob Arum and Don King. International Boxing Hall Of Fame
The International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHOF), located in Canastota, New York, right next to exit 34 of the New York State Thruway, honors boxers, trainers and other contributors to the sport worldwide. Inductees are selected on ballots created through screened public nominations by members of the Boxing Writers Association of America. The IBHOF started as a 1980s initiative by Ed Brophy and other locals to honor Canastota's world boxing champions, Carmen Basilio and Basilio's nephew, Billy Backus; the village of Canastota inaugurated the new museum in 1989 which showcases boxing's rich history. With the opening of the Oneida Indian Nation’s Turing Stone Casino in the nearby city of Verona in the early 90s, a relationship was developed whereas various IBHOF Hall of Fame Weekend events were hosted at the casino. Boxing is a combat sport and martial art.
