Jenny Brown (feminist)
Jenny Brown is an organizer in the women's liberation movement and the author of several books on feminism, reproductive rights, and labor. She works with National Women's Liberation, a radical feminist organization of dues-paying women. Feminist movement work Brown began studying radical feminism with Gainesville Women's Liberation (GWL), which was founded in 1968 and was the first women's liberation group in the South. She also worked with the Redstockings of the Women's Liberation Movement, developing the Redstockings Archives for Action, a repository of women's liberation history and activist resources. In 2009, GWL and Redstockings collaboratively founded National Women's Liberation (NWL) and Brown became the national organizer of the new group. Jenny Gilbertson
Jenny Gilbertson (born Jenny Brown; 28 October 1902 – 8 January 1990) was a Scottish documentary and educational filmmaker. Early life and education Jenny Gilbertson was born on 28 October 1902, in Glasgow, Scotland; the only daughter of Mary Dunn Wright, and an iron merchant, William Brown. She studied at Laurel Bank School, then furthered her education at Glasgow University where she earned an MA in teaching. Her relationship with films started after she went to London for a secretarial course in journalism in 1929. She concluded that educational and documentary style filmmaking was for her after she saw an amateur film about the Scottish Loch Lomond in London; which resulted in her purchasing her first 16mm camera. Gilbertson chose Shetland as her first subject as she had been taken there by her family as a child. Jenny Brown's Point is a small headland in Silverdale parish, south of the village of Silverdale, in City of Lancaster district, Lancashire, England, on the edge of Morecambe Bay. Name The point has also been known as Brown's Point (1812), Silverdale Point (1818) and Lindeth Point (1828); the name Jenny Brown Point was in use on an 1829 estate plan and was used by the Ordnance Survey from 1848. The identity of Jenny Brown is uncertain, though a daughter Jennet was born in 1628 to Robert Walling of Dikehouse, the farm at the point, and married Robert Brown (or Browen or Browne); one of their daughters was Jennet (born 1665), named Jennye in her father's will.
