Jean-Hugues Colonna
Jean-Hugues Dieudonné Colonna (born 31 May 1934) is a French Socialist Party politician. Born in Cargèse, Corse-du-Sud, Colonna moved to Nice in the 1970s to be a teacher of physical education. He served in the National Assembly representing Alpes-Maritimes's 3rd constituency (1981–1986) and Alpes-Maritimes at large (1986–1988). While in the Assembly, he was an advisor on Corsican affairs for Gaston Defferre, the Minister of the Interior. In 1988, he was defeated in the run-off for the 5th constituency of the department by Christian Estrosi. He was made a Chevalier of the Legion of Honour in April 1998 for "34 years of civil and military service, trade union activities and elected public service". He married Cécile Riou, who was originally from Brittany. Claude Érignac
Claude Jean Pierre Érignac (; 15 December 1937 – 6 February 1998) was a French prefect on the island of Corsica. Érignac was born in Mende, Lozère. In the course of his political career, he had been prefect of several departments and overseas departments since 1967. In 1996 he went to Ajaccio in Corsica to take office as the Prefect of Corse-du-Sud. Assassination Claude Érignac was on his way to a classical music concert in Ajaccio when he was assassinated at 9:15 p.m. on 6 February 1998 by two gunmen, who shot him three times with a 9 mm Beretta pistol. The weapon had been stolen on 6 September 1997, when members of the National Liberation Front of Corsica stormed a gendarmerie barracks at Pietrosella. Yvan Colonna
Yvan Colonna (, ; 7 April 1960 – 21 March 2022) was a Corsican nationalist convicted for the 1998 assassination of the prefect of Corse-du-Sud, Claude Érignac. He was beaten to death in prison by a Cameroonian-born inmate for "disrespecting Muhammad", sparking riots. Early life Colonna was born in Ajaccio, France, on 7 April 1960. He was the son of Jean-Hugues Colonna, a former member of the National Assembly for the Socialist Party elected in the Alpes-Maritimes and a recipient of the French Légion d'honneur.
