Jason Reischel (born April 19, 1976) is an American singer-songwriter from Brooklyn, New York who sometimes goes by the stage name My Cousin, The Emperor. Early life and education Reischel was born on April 19, 1976, in Huntington, New York, and was raised in Asheville, North Carolina. He began writing songs when he was 12 years old. He attended North Carolina State University, in Raleigh, North Carolina, majoring in history with dual minors in political science and classical studies. He moved to New York City in 2004, and began performing as a solo singer-songwriter. Career Reischel began playing guitar when he was ten years old, and wrote his first song when he was in seventh grade. After his debut album Brown Bridge & Green Bridge was released in 2006, Reischel was compared to Elliott Smith, Tim Buckley, Paul Simon, and Townes Van Zandt. Black 47 was an American Celtic rock band from New York City, formed in 1989 by Larry Kirwan and Chris Byrne, and derives its name from a traditional term for the summer of 1847, the worst year of the Great Famine in Ireland. Widespread Panic is an American rock band from Athens, Georgia. The current lineup includes guitarist/singer John Bell, bassist Dave Schools, drummer Duane Trucks, percussionist Domingo "Sunny" Ortiz, keyboardist John "JoJo" Hermann, and guitarist Jimmy Herring. The band's original guitarist and sometime songwriter, Michael Houser, died of pancreatic cancer in 2002, and the original drummer, Todd Nance, left in 2016 and died in 2020. Two of five current members ( Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley) are originally from The Shoals region of northern Alabama and met as roommates at the University of North Alabama. Patterson Hood
Patterson David Hood (born March 24, 1964) is an American singer-songwriter and co-founder of the band Drive-By Truckers. Early life Hood was born in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, the son of Jan Patterson Adams and David Hood, the longtime bassist of the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section. He has a younger sister, Lilla Hood. His parents married young, and divorced when he was in college. His mother later remarried. Hood wrote the song "18 Wheels of Love" about their relationship. Hood began writing songs at the age of eight, and by the time he was 14 he was playing guitar in a local rock band. The 40 Watt Club is a music venue in Athens, Georgia. Along with CBGB, the Whisky a Go Go, and selected others, it was instrumental in launching American punk rock and new wave music. The 40 Watt Club was the primary performance space for numerous "Athens bands", including Pylon, R.E.M., Love Tractor, Dreams So Real, Guadalcanal Diary, The Primates, Modern Skirts, and others. Its DIY ethos and informality were instrumental in the fostering of punk rock and a "scene" in Athens.
