Janice Underwood
Janice Bell Underwood is an American educator who was the first director of United States Office of Personnel Management's Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility and the governmentwide chief diversity officer from 2022 to 2024. She is the vice president of diversity at Disney Experiences. Underwood was previously the first chief diversity officer of the Virginia state government from 2019 to 2022. Life Underwood was born to Michael and Virginia Bell. She earned a B.A. (1998) in psychology and a M.A. in special education (2002) from Hampton University. She earned a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction from the Darden College of Education at Old Dominion University (ODU). Hampton University
Hampton University is a private, historically black, research university in Hampton, Virginia, United States. Founded in 1868 as Hampton Agricultural and Industrial School, it was established by Black and White leaders of the American Missionary Association after the American Civil War to provide education to freedmen. The campus houses the Hampton University Museum, which is the oldest museum of the African diaspora in the United States and the oldest museum in the commonwealth of Virginia. First led by former Union General Samuel Chapman Armstrong, Hampton University's main campus is located on in Hampton, Virginia, on the banks of the Hampton River.
