Janice Reid
Janice Clare Reid (born 19 September 1947) is an Australian academic and medical anthropologist, who has specialised in Aboriginal and refugee health. She was Vice-Chancellor of the University of Western Sydney from 1998 to 2013. Early life and education Reid was born in Adelaide, South Australia on 19 September 1947. She was educated at the Presbyterian Girls College (now Seymour College) and then completed a BSc at the University of Adelaide. She later completed an MA at the University of Hawaii and an MA and PhD at Stanford University, USA. Career Reid began her career as summer research assistant (1966–1968) at the Australian Mineral Development Laboratories in Adelaide, later in soil science and animal biology at the Waite Institute and tutor (1968) in the Department of Geology at her alma mater, the University of Adelaide. Companions Of The Order Of Australia
The Order of Australia is the only Australian order of chivalry. It was established on 14 February 1975 by Elizabeth II, Queen of Australia, to recognise Australian citizens and other persons for achievement, meritorious service, or for both. At that time, Companion of the Order of Australia was the highest of three grades of the order (companion, officer, member). On 24 May 1976, the grade of Knight or Dame of the Order was established, displacing companion as the highest grade. On 3 June 1986, the knight/dame grade was abolished, and companion was once again the highest grade. On 25 March 2014, the knight/dame grade was re-established, companion once again being relegated to the second highest grade of the order. The Centenary Medal is an award which was created by the Australian Government in 2001. It was established to commemorate the centenary of the Federation of Australia and to recognise "people who made a contribution to Australian society or government". It was also awarded to centenarians, Australian citizens born on or before 31 December 1901 who lived to celebrate the centenary of federation on 1 January 2001.
