Jane Mudd
Jane Mudd (born October 1968) is a Welsh politician for the Labour and Co-operative Party, serving as Gwent Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) since 2024, and Newport City Councillor for Malpas since 2012. She was Leader of Newport City Council from November 2019, until she resigned as leader at the Council's AGM on 21 May 2024 after winning the PCC election, whilst retaining her councillor role. Political career Local government In 2012, Mudd was first elected to represent Newport's Malpas ward. Mudd is the Welsh Local Government Association spokesperson on Community Safety and co-chairs the Wales Community Safety Board. In 2019, she was selected as Leader of Newport City Council, following the elevation of Baroness Debbie Wilcox to the House of Lords. The Gwent Police and Crime Commissioner is the police and crime commissioner for the Gwent Police area, comprising Newport, Caerphilly, Blaenau Gwent, Torfaen and Monmouthshire. The current commissioner is Jane Mudd, who represents the Labour Party. The post was first elected in November 2012 and replaced the Gwent Police Authority as part of the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011. During his period of office, Johnston reopened several police stations across Gwent, and he also launched the force's Victims Charter. February–March 2024 Welsh Labour Leadership Election
The February–March 2024 Welsh Labour leadership election took place to select Mark Drakeford's successor as leader of Welsh Labour, who in turn would become First Minister of Wales. Drakeford announced his resignation and retirement on 13 December 2023, five years after his election. Voting began in February 2024 with the new leader announced on 16 March 2024. Vaughan Gething won the election with 51.7% of the vote. The next scheduled Senedd election is due Next Senedd election, on or before 7 May 2026. Jeffrey Cuthbert
Jeffrey Hambley Cuthbert (born 4 June 1948) is a Welsh politician. He served as Gwent Police and Crime Commissioner from 2016 to 2024. Cuthbert served as a Labour Party member of the National Assembly for Wales for Caerphilly from 2003 to 2016. He began his career in the mining industry and later worked for the Welsh Joint Education Committee (as it was then) as head of the Asset to Industry Unit. Biography Cuthbert was born in Glasgow to a Welsh mother and Scottish father, but brought up in Cardiff, where he attended Whitchurch County Secondary Modern followed by studying mining engineering at University College, Cardiff.
