James Curran (linguist)
James R. Curran is a computational linguist and senior lecturer at the University of Sydney. He holds a PhD in Informatics from the University of Edinburgh. Research Curran's research focuses on natural language processing, making him one of the few Australian computational linguists. Specifically Curran's research has focused on the area of natural language processing known as combinatory categorial grammar parsing. In addition to his contributions to NLP, Curran has produced a paper on the development of search engines to assist in driving problem based learning. Within NLP, he has published papers on combinatory categorial grammar parsing as well as question answering systems. Jim Curran
James Lawrence Curran (15 April 1927 – 18 May 2005) was a NSW politician (Australia) from Gilgandra, NSW. He was a Labor Party member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1980 to 1981, representing the electorate of Castlereagh. Early life Curran was born in 1927 at Gilgandra where his father, Gilbert Curran, had arrived in 1908 as a young man from Horsham, Vic, with his own parents, brothers and sisters. Gilbert Curran's father, Con Curran snr, had purchased Gilgandra's Royal Hotel in May 1908, and in early 1909 Gilbert purchased a block of land of 3,650 acres adjacent to the Marthaguy Creek, which had been subdivided from "Berida" station. Jim Curran and his brothers were raised on this farming property, named "Bundah", located sixteen kilometres (ten miles) west from Gilgandra township. James Curran (murder Victim)
James Curran (c. 1962 – 3 April 2005) was the victim of a politically charged murder conspiracy in Ireland. Background James Curran was a native of The Liberties, Dublin, a neighborhood heavily beset since the 1980s by both drugs abuse and drug dealing. From a young age "Jimmy", as he was called by friends, was a fitness fanatic who regularly ran marathons and had a keen interest in martial arts for which he won numerous awards and even a world title in kickboxing. Curran repeatedly denounced the involvement of former Irish republican paramilitaries in extorting protection money from well-known drug dealers in the south inner city. In return for these payments, the IRA both allowed the dealers to continue with their business, but were also on call to help the drug dealers with any "difficulties". James Michael Curran
James Michael Curran Sr. (1903 - 1968) was an American civil engineer who designed the chairlift that was essential for establishing skiing as a recreational sport in the United States. According to the Ski Hall of Fame in Ishpeming, Michigan, "Curran revolutionized the sport of skiing by designing an easy, moderately inexpensive method for skiers to ascend the mountain. The chairlift went on to become the workhorse of the ski industry, enjoyed by millions of skiers for the next 60 years. His contribution to the sport and industry of skiing has been enormous, although mostly unrecognized." Curran was born June 9, 1903 in Omaha, Nebraska. His parents were immigrants from Ireland. He possessed a high school education with a few night school courses, and was employed as a draftsman and iron worker before passing the civil engineering exam.
