Jake Gervase
Jake Gervase (born September 18, 1995) is an American football linebacker for the Los Angeles Rams of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Iowa. College career Gervase was a member of the Iowa Hawkeyes for five seasons, joining the team as a walk-on and redshirting his true freshman season. As a redshirt senior, he led the Hawkeyes with 89 tackles, seven passes broken up, and four interceptions and was named honorable mention All-Big Ten Conference. Gervase finished his collegiate career with 153 total tackles and seven interceptions in 44 games played. Professional career Gervase signed with the Los Angeles Rams as an undrafted free agent on May 14, 2019. Gervase was waived on August 31, 2019, as part of final roster cuts, but was re-signed to the Rams' practice squad the following day. Linebacker
Linebacker (LB) is a playing position in gridiron football. Linebackers are members of the defensive team, and line up three to five yards behind the line of scrimmage and the defensive linemen. They are the "middle ground" of defenders, playing closer to the line of scrimmage than the defensive backs (secondary), but farther back than the defensive linemen. As such, linebackers play a hybrid role and are often the most versatile players on the defensive side of the ball; they can be asked to play roles similar to either a defensive lineman (such as stopping the runner on a running play) or a defensive back (such as dropping back into pass coverage). Redshirt, in United States college athletics, is a delay or suspension of an athlete's participation in order to lengthen their period of eligibility. Typically, a student's athletic eligibility in a given sport is four seasons, aligning with the four years of academic classes typically required to earn a bachelor's degree at an American college or university. However, in a redshirt year, student athletes may attend classes at the college or university, practice with an athletic team, and "suit up" (wear a team uniform) for play – but they may compete in only a limited number of games (see " Use of status" section).
