Ivor Seemley
Ivor John Seemley (30 June 1929 – 1 November 2014) was an English professional footballer who played as a left back in the Football League for Sheffield Wednesday, Stockport County, and Chesterfield and in non-League football for Ilkeston Town and Sutton Town. Career Born in Sheffield, West Riding of Yorkshire, Seemley started his career with his boyhood club Sheffield Wednesday, progressing through the youth teams to turn professional shortly after his 17th birthday in 1946. He had to wait a while for his debut for the club, making his first appearance in December 1953. He was part of the side that reached the FA Cup semi-final in 1954, eventually losing 2–0 to Preston North End. He left in the summer of 1955 to join Football League Third Division North side Stockport County, having made 23 appearances in all competitions. Sheffield
Sheffield is a city in South Yorkshire, England, whose name derives from the River Sheaf which runs through it. The city serves as the administrative centre of the City of Sheffield. The Football Association Challenge Cup, more commonly known as the FA Cup, is an annual knockout football competition in men's domestic English football. First played during the 1871–72 season, it is the oldest national football competition in the world. It is organised by and named after The Football Association (The FA). Billy Sowden
William Sowden (8 December 1930 – 13 November 2010) was an English professional footballer who played as a centre forward in the Football League for Manchester City, Chesterfield and Stockport County and in non-League football for Macclesfield and Altrincham. Career Born in Gorton, Manchester, Sowden started his career with junior side Greenwood Victoria before joining Manchester City as an eighteen-year-old in April 1949, despite being a Manchester United supporter. He made his professional debut for City in August 1952 in the Manchester derby. In his next appearance for the club he scored twice against Tottenham Hotspur. He scored the first Manchester City goal under floodlights at Maine Road when he scored a hat-trick against Heart of Midlothian in a friendly in October 1953. Edgeley Park
Edgeley Park is a football stadium in Edgeley, Stockport, England. Built for rugby league club Stockport RFC in 1891, by 1903, the rugby club was defunct and Stockport County Football Club moved in. Edgeley Park is an all-seater stadium holding 10,900 spectators. Stockport County shared it with Sale Sharks rugby union club between 2003 and 2012. In 2015, Stockport Council purchased the stadium for around £2 million, leasing it back to the football club, in order to prevent it from being demolished and redeveloped. Football League Third Division North
The Third Division North of the Football League was a tier in the English football league system from 1921 to 1958. It ran in parallel with the Third Division South with clubs elected to the League or relegated from a higher division allocated to one or the other according to geographical position. Some clubs in the English Midlands shuttled between the Third Division North and the Third Division South according to the composition of the two leagues in any one season. The Third Division South had been created in 1921 from the Third Division formed the previous year made up of 22 teams drawn mostly from the Southern League. The West Riding of Yorkshire is one of three historic subdivisions of Yorkshire, England.
