Ivo Andrić
Ivo Andrić ( sr-Cyrl, Иво Андрић, ; born Ivan Andrić; 9 October 1892 – 13 March 1975) was a Yugoslav novelist, poet and short story writer who won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1961. His writings dealt mainly with life in his native Bosnia under Ottoman rule. Born in Travnik in Austria-Hungary, modern-day Bosnia and Herzegovina, Andrić attended high school in Sarajevo, where he became an active member of several South Slav national youth organizations. Following the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in June 1914, Andrić was arrested and imprisoned by the Austro-Hungarian police, who suspected his involvement in the plot. As the authorities were unable to build a strong case against him, he spent much of the war under house arrest, only being released following a general amnesty for such cases in July 1917. Ivo of Kermartin, T.O.S.F. (17 October 1253 – 19 May 1303), also known Yvo, Yves, or Ives (and in Breton as Erwan, Iwan, Youenn or Eozenn, depending on the region, and known as Yves Hélory (also ''Helori'' or ''Heloury'') in French), was a parish priest among the poor of Louannec, the only one of his station to be canonized in the Middle Ages. Saint Ivo (also known as Ives) was a Cornish bishop and hermit, and became the eponymous saint of St Ives, Huntingdonshire. History The discovery of Bishop Ivo's remains in 1001 was first mentioned briefly in John of Worcester's ''Chronicon ex chronicis''. He appears in the historical sources in 1001/2 when a peasant allegedly found his coffin while ploughing at Slepe (later renamed St. Ives).Blair, "Handlist", p. 541 The body appeared to be invested with the insignia of a bishop. According to an account by Goscelin of St Bertin, St. Ivo appeared to the ploughman in several visions, which obliged him to communicate the discovery to the abbot's reeve. Ivo de Grandmesnil (died 1101 or 1102), son of Hugh de Grandmesnil, was a Norman magnate in England and a participant in the First Crusade, in 1096. Ivo participated in the first crusade in 1096, following Robert Curthose, Duke of Normandy. Having been among the nobles who rebelled against William Rufus in 1088, participation in the crusade was a good way to avoid the English king's wrath. However, Ivo became a figure of some derision when, during the Siege of Antioch, he and some his compatriots (including his brother) panicked, let themselves over the city walls by rope and fled back home. After the death of his father in 1098, he inherited the town and castle of Leicester and additional estates, assuming the title of Sheriff of Leicester. He was among the barons supporting the claims of Robert Curthose against his brother Henry I in 1100. Ivo de Vesci, sometimes spelt Vescy and first name sometimes Yves, was a prominent 11th-century English noble. He obtained lands and the lordship of Alnwick in Northumberland from King William II of England. He was also given lands in Malton, Yorkshire. It is not known whether he is the son or kinsman of the Robert de Veci who participated in the Norman conquest of England and was rewarded with great estates in the counties of Northampton, Warwick and Lincoln.
