Ismail Haji Nour
Ismail Haji Nour ( so, Ismaaciil Xaaji Nuur) is a Somaliland politician and is the current Mayor of Erigavo, the capital of Sanaag region of Somaliland, since October 2003. A well known businessman, he was imprisoned several times during the rule of Siad Barre for alleged dissidence. He is one of the longest serving mayors in Somaliland and the only mayor who has been re-elected. Mayor Of Erigavo
In many countries, a mayor is the highest-ranking official in a municipal government such as that of a city or a town. Worldwide, there is a wide variance in local laws and customs regarding the powers and responsibilities of a mayor as well as the means by which a mayor is elected or otherwise mandated. Waddani
The Somaliland National Party ( so, Xisbiga Waddani, lit=Patriotic Party), sometimes referred to as the Waddani National Party and better known by its shortened Somali form Waddani, is a political party in Somaliland. The party was founded by Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Irro) in 2012, ahead of the second municipal elections later that year. On 16 November 2021 Hersi Ali Haji Hassan was elected as the new chairman of the opposition party. Economically the party leans left, defending the establishment of a universal healthcare system, public investment and doubling resources in education. It is progressive on issues regarding minority rights and fundamental freedoms, such as proposing a quorum of 30% of women in parliament. The party also supports greater decentralisation. Erigavo
Erigavo ( so, Ceerigaabo, ), also spelled as Erigabo, is the capital and largest city of the Sanaag region of Somaliland. History The Erigavo settlement is several centuries old.
