Iryna Taranenko-Terelia
Iryna Leonidivna Taranenko-Terelya ( uk, Ірина Леонідівна Тараненко-Тереля, born March 31, 1966) is a former Ukrainian cross-country skier who competed from 1992 to 2004. She won a bronze medal in the 5 km + 10 km combined pursuit at the 1999 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Ramsau. She was the first woman to represent Ukraine at the Olympics. Taranenko's best individual finish at the Winter Olympics was 4th twice at Nagano in 1998 1998 was designated as the ''International Year of the Ocean''. Competitive cross-country skiing encompasses a variety of race formats and course lengths. Rules of cross-country skiing are sanctioned by the International Ski Federation and by various national organizations. FIS Nordic World Ski Championships
The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships is a biennial nordic skiing event organized by the International Ski Federation (FIS). The World Championships was started in 1925 for men and opened for women's participation in 1954. World Championship events include nordic skiing's three disciplines: cross-country skiing, ski jumping, and nordic combined (the latter being a combination sport consisting of both cross-country and ski jumping). From 1924 to 1939, the World Championships were held every year, including the Winter Olympics. After World War II, the World Championships were held every four years from 1950 to 1982.
