International Churchill Society
The International Churchill Society (ICS), formerly known as the Churchill Centre, studies the life and works of Winston Churchill. The Society's exhibits are located at the Churchill War Rooms in London, and the National Churchill Library and Center at the George Washington University in Washington D.C. The Society sponsors an annual International Churchill Conference and numerous regional events. With grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Society has conducted seminars for high school teachers in the United States and United Kingdom. The society publishes ''Finest Hour,'' a quarterly journal which discusses Churchill's political philosophy and its relevance to today's issues. Winston Churchill
Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill (30 November 187424 January 1965) was a British statesman, soldier, and writer who served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom twice, from 1940 to 1945 during the Second World War, and again from 1951 to 1955. Apart from two years between 1922 and 1924, he was a Member of Parliament (MP) from 1900 to 1964 and represented a total of five constituencies. Ideologically an economic liberal and imperialist, he was for most of his career a member of the Conservative Party, which he led from 1940 to 1955. He was a member of the Liberal Party from 1904 to 1924. Of mixed English and American parentage, Churchill was born in Oxfordshire to a wealthy, aristocratic family. He joined the British Army in 1895 and saw action in British India, the Anglo-Sudan War, and the Second Boer War, gaining fame as a war correspondent and writing books about his campaigns. Churchill War Rooms
The Churchill War Rooms is a museum in London and one of the five branches of the Imperial War Museum. The museum comprises the ''Cabinet War Rooms'', a historic underground complex that housed a British government command centre throughout the Second World War, and the ''Churchill Museum'', a biographical museum exploring the life of British statesman Winston Churchill. Construction of the Cabinet War Rooms, located beneath the Treasury building in the Whitehall area of Westminster, began in 1938. They became fully operational on 27 August 1939, a week before Britain declared war on Germany. The War Rooms remained in operation throughout the Second World War, before being abandoned in August 1945 after the surrender of Japan. National Churchill Library And Center
The National Churchill Leadership Center (NCLC) formerly known as the National Churchill Library and Center is a public library and museum at the George Washington University (GWU) in Washington, D.C., dedicated to the life and work of former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill. It is located on the ground level of the GWU's Gelman Library. The NCLC was officially opened on 29 October 2016 and is a collaboration between the George Washington University and the International Churchill Society. The concept of a Churchill research library in the United States was conceived in 2012 by International Churchill Society Chairman, Laurence Geller CBE, and the then President of the George Washington University, Steven Knapp. It was the first research facility in the U.S. capital dedicated to the study of Churchill. America’s National Churchill Museum (formerly the Winston Churchill Memorial and Library), is located on the Westminster College campus in Fulton, Missouri, United States. Winston Churchill Memorial Trusts (WCMT) are three independent but related living memorials to Sir Winston Churchill, based in the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand.
