"Independent Love Song" is a song by British musical duo Scarlet, taken from their debut album, ''Naked'' (1994). The power ballad was a hit single, entering the UK Singles Chart at number 26 and reaching a peak of number 12 in February 1995. The single became a top-ten hit on the Irish Singles Chart, where it peaked at number 10, and charted within the top 50 in Germany, Iceland, Sweden, and Switzerland. Other tracks on the release included "The Fall" and "Independent Love Song" (3am Mix). Critical reception Larry Flick from '' Billboard'' wrote, "There is not much innovation, just a booming power ballad with simple lyrics, dramatic instrumentation, and a female lead vocal that soars to glass-shattering soprano heights. It certainly works, pressing every reactionary listener button. Translation: This single should become an immediate AC radio staple." Scarlet (British Band)
Scarlet were an English pop duet (music), duo from Kingston upon Hull, Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. They consisted of Cheryl Parker (vocalist, guitarist) and Jo Youle (pianist, keyboardist, vocalist). The group originally had a third member, Joanna Fox (flautist, vocalist) but she left before the band had any major success. Career Parker, Youle and Fox met at secondary school and started playing together locally around Hull as 'Cheap Day Return', along with bass player Ed Clark in the late 1980s. Trimming down to a trio, the three girls moved to London in 1991 and signed a publishing deal with Chrysalis Music some months later. In 1992, they signed to independent record label Haven Records and released two singles that year: "Piccadilly in the Rain (I'll Be There)" and "Shine on Me Now", neither of which charted. In 1993, they signed to Warner Music Group, WEA, and started recording their debut album. The first single "I Really Like the Idea" was released in 1994, ...
