Ina is a village in Jefferson County, Illinois, United States. The population was 2,338 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Mount Vernon Micropolitan Statistical Area. Geography Ina is located at (38.150648, -88.904709). Illinois Route 37 is the village's Main Street, and Interstate 57 runs through the west side of town, with access from Exit 83. Mount Vernon, the Jefferson county seat, is to the north, and Benton is the same distance to the south. According to the 2010 census, Ina has a total area of , all land. Ina is located on high ground between Casey Creek and Gun Creek, both tributaries of the Big Muddy River. Big Muddy River
The Big Muddy River is a river in southern Illinois. It joins the Mississippi River just south of Grand Tower. The Big Muddy has been dammed near Benton, forming Rend Lake. The Big Muddy has a mud bottom for most of its length. Hydrography The Big Muddy drains a watershed. In 1995, water quality was assessed as "fair" to "good". Pollution sources include agricultural practices, mining and municipalities. The watershed of the Big Muddy was covered by the Illinoian Glacier about 300,000 to 132,000 years before present. The Big Muddy basin formed after the retreat of that glacier. The Big Muddy was not covered by the Wisconsin Glacier, about 70,000 to 10,000 years before present. On the evening of November 18, 1987, police went to the mobile home of Russell Keith Dardeen, 29, and his family outside Ina, Illinois, United States, after he had failed to show up for work that day. There, they found the bodies of his wife and son, both brutally beaten. Bonnie, Illinois
Bonnie is a village located in the southern part of Jefferson County, Illinois. Bonnie had a population of 397 in the 2010 census, down from 424 in the 2000 census. It is part of the Mount Vernon Micropolitan Statistical Area. History The first settlement in this area was Spring Garden, about four miles southeast of Bonnie. There were several springs in the area. Early in the 19th century, Uriah Compton walled them up and built a resort called "Compton's Springs". In 1848, the village of Spring Garden was platted next to the resort. Spring Garden grew rapidly, becoming the second largest settlement in the County, even having a high school by 1888.
