Imi, Ethiopia
Imi ( so, Iimeey) is a town in the Somali Region of Ethiopia. It is currently divided to two separate towns. East Imi woreda of the Gode Zone and West Imi woreda of the Afder Zone. The Shebelle River runs between these towns. It's located at an elevation of 442 meters above sea level. The Central Statistical Agency has not published an estimate for this village's 2005 population. Imi hosts an airport (ICAO code HAIM) which consists of an unpaved airstrip about 1050 meters in length, possibly the shortest in an Ethiopian civil airport. History Probably the earliest European explorer to visit Imi was Arthur Rimbaud, who was working at the time as a commercial agent in Harar for the firm of Mazeran, Vinnay and Barday. Jean Nicolas Arthur Rimbaud (, ; 20 October 1854 – 10 November 1891) was a French poet known for his transgressive and surreal themes and for his influence on modern literature and arts, prefiguring surrealism. Bale Revolt
The Bale revolt or the Bale Peasant Movement was an insurgency that took place during the 1960's in the southeastern Ethiopian province of Bale among the local Oromo and Somali population. The revolt targeted the feudalist system in place during the Ethiopian Empire and was rooted in ethnic and religious grievances. Initially acts of resistance began in 1962 and 1963 as a defensive reaction by peasants to land expropriation, bureaucratic corruption, and exorbitant taxation imposed by the government. However, further clashes and consequent government reprisals eventually transformed the peasants into a decentralized insurgency that would go on to wage a six-year long guerrilla war, ending in 1970. Support from the Somali government that had begun in 1963 was integral to the insurgencies ability to sustain combat operations, and consequently played a significant part in the rising tensions leading up to the 1964 Ethiopian–Somali Border War. Las Anod
Las Anod ( so, Laascaanood; ar, لاسعانود) is the administrative capital of the Sool, Somaliland, Sool region of Somaliland. Territorial dispute The city is disputed by Puntland and Somaliland. The former bases its claim due to the kinship ties between the Dhulbahante clan and the dominant clan in Puntland, the Majeerteen, whilst the latter's claim is grounded on the border of the former British Somaliland Protectorate. The city was the proclaimed capital of Khatumo State throughout its existence until its dissolvement in 2017. Somaliland forces captured the city in the Battle of Las Anod in 2007, ousting Puntland forces, and has maintained full control of the city in all aspects since. ''Ras'' Makonnen Wolde Mikael Wolde Melekot (Amharic: ራስ መኮንን ወልደ ሚካኤል ወልደ መለኮት; 8 May 1852 – 21 March 1906), or simply Ras Makonnen, also known as Abba Qagnew (አባ ቃኘው), was a Shewan royal from Menz, a military leader, the governor of Harar province in the Ethiopian Empire, and the father of Tafari Makonnen (later known as Emperor Haile Selassie). His father was ''Dejazmach'' Wolde Mikael Wolde Melekot of Shewa. Makonnen was a grandson of ''Negus'' Sahle Selassie of Shewa through his mother, ''Woizero'' Tenagnework Sahle Selassie.
