Iivo Niskanen
Iivo Henrik Niskanen (born 12 January 1992) is a Finnish cross-country skier who has competed in the FIS Cross-Country World Cup since 2011. He is a three-time Olympic champion. Career Iivo Niskanen made his individual World Cup debut on 12 March 2011, when he became 69th in a 20 km skiathlon in Lahti, Finland. He had his breakthrough at the international level when he won the 15-kilometre classic race at the 2014 under-23 World Championships in Val di Fiemme on 30 January 2014. He won the race with a 17.4 seconds margin to Sergey Ustiugov. Only three days after he won the gold medal at the under-23 World Championships, he became 8th in a 15 km classic World Cup race in Toblach, Italy. He won the gold medal in men's team sprint at the 2014 Winter Olympics with Sami Jauhojärvi. FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2023
The 43rd FIS Nordic World Ski Championships will be held from 21 February to 5 March 2023 in Planica, Slovenia. It will be the first time that the country will host the World Championships. Championships Slovenia will host the Nordic World Championships for the first time. All competitions will take place at the Planica Nordic Centre, located in the Planica monument valley. Host selection The World Championships were awarded at the 51st FIS Congress, held between 13 and 19 May 2018 in Costa Navarino, Greece. Planica was unsuccessful in the previous three bids for the championship. The detailed application had to be submitted by 1 September 2017. Sergey Aleksandrovich Ustiugov (russian: Сергей Александрович Устюгов; born 8 April 1992) is a Russian Cross-country skiing (sport), cross-country skier, Olympic champion, world champion and Tour de Ski winner. Career Early career In 2001, Sergey Ustiugov started practicing cross-country skiing in the biathlon section of the sports school of Mezhdurechensky, Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, Mezhdurechensky. His head coach was Ivan Gennadievich Vragin. Ten years later he won gold in sprint at the World Youth Cross-Country Skiing Championships in Otepää, Estonia. FIS Cross-Country World Cup
The FIS Cross-Country World Cup is an annual cross-country skiing competition, arranged by the International Ski Federation (FIS) since 1981. The competition was arranged unofficially between 1973 and 1981, although it received provisional recognition on the 31st FIS Congress, 29–30 April 1977 in Bariloche, Argentina. The first World Cup races were held on 9 January 1982 and were located in Reit im Winkl, West Germany and Klingenthal, East Germany. Bill Koch of the United States and Berit Aunli of Norway were the overall winners in the first season. Rules Competitors attempt to achieve the most points during the season.
