Iberia Parish, Louisiana
Iberia Parish (french: Paroisse de l'Ibérie, es, Parroquia de Iberia) is a parish located in the U.S. state of Louisiana. At the 2020 census, it had a population of 69,929; the parish seat is New Iberia. The parish was formed in 1868 during the Reconstruction era and named for the Iberian Peninsula. It is part of the 22-parish Acadiana region of the state, with a large Francophone population. Some of its ethnic French residents had ancestors who settled here after being expelled in the 18th century by the British from Acadia in present-day Canada. Historically, it has also been a center for sugar cane cultivation and produces the most sugar of any parish in the state. Iberia Parish is part of the Lafayette metropolitan area. I-49 (Future)
Interstate 49 (I-49) is a north–south Interstate Highway that exists in multiple segments: the original portion entirely within the state of Louisiana with an additional signed portion extending from I-220 in Shreveport to the Arkansas state line, three newer sections in Arkansas, and a new section that opened in Missouri. Its southern terminus is in Lafayette, Louisiana, at I-10 while its northern terminus is in Kansas City, Missouri, at I-435 and I-470. Portions of the remaining roadway in Louisiana, Arkansas, and Texas, which will link Kansas City with New Orleans, are in various stages of planning or construction. Louisiana Highway 87
Louisiana Highway 87 (LA 87) is a state highway located in southern Louisiana. It runs in a northwest to southeast direction from LA 86 in New Iberia to the junction of two local roads north of Centerville. The route parallels Bayou Teche downstream from New Iberia through Iberia Parish and into neighboring St. Mary Parish. It is the east bank counterpart to the busier LA 182 (the former path of U.S. Highway 90), along which most of the area's populated communities are located. A succession of bridges connect LA 87 with these communities, which include Jeanerette, Charenton, Baldwin, and Franklin. Louisiana Highway 86
Louisiana Highway 86 (LA 86) is a state highway located in southern Louisiana. It runs in a general north–south direction from LA 182 in New Iberia to LA 31 north of town. LA 86 follows the east bank of Bayou Teche as it makes a hairpin turn in Iberia Parish. It initially heads eastward from New Iberia, the parish seat, then north through the village of Loreauville, and finally in a general southwestern direction to a point almost on the St. Martin Parish line. Outside of New Iberia, the route travels through a thin ribbon of residential development in otherwise rural surroundings. LA 86 crosses Bayou Teche twice by way of movable bridges near each terminus. Louisiana Highway 85 (LA 85) is a state highway located in Iberia Parish, Louisiana. It runs in an east–west direction from LA 83 in Lydia to LA 182 in Jeanerette. Louisiana Highway 83 (LA 83) is a state highway located in southern Louisiana. It runs in a general east–west direction from LA 14 in New Iberia to LA 182 in Baldwin. The route essentially forms a loop off of U.S. Highway 90 (US 90). Louisiana Highway 14 (LA 14) is a state highway located in southern Louisiana. It runs in an east–west direction from the junction of U.S. Highways 90 and 171 in Lake Charles to LA 182 in New Iberia. The highway connects a string of small communities and cities in the Acadiana region of the state at a distance of roughly from the Gulf of Mexico. It connects three parish seats and traverses four parishes, briefly passing through the corner of a fifth.
