Iris Rogers
Iris L. Rogers (née Cooley, born 1930) is a former English badminton player. Badminton career Born Iris L Cooley she came to prominence in the early fifties when playing doubles. Partnering June Timperley née White the pair broke the stranglehold of the Danish pairs during the era of Danish domination by claiming three All England women's doubles titles. She also claimed an All England mixed doubles titles with John Best. Although mainly concentrating on doubles Rogers was also a very good singles player reaching the final of the All England in 1954 before losing out to Judy Devlin. Other successes included nine Irish open titles, nine Scottish open titles, three Dutch opens, one Swedish open and one Danish open title. Ursula Honour Smith married name Oakley (born 1934) is a former English international badminton player. Early life She lived at 'Fernleigh' 15 Brunswick Sq Herne Bay Kent from age of ten. She attended La Sainte Union RC school in Herne Bay. She attended the University of Southampton, where she played for the university badminton team, winning the UAU championship in December 1952 in the Victory Hall of Loughborough College. In 1956 she worked at St George's Hospital when at The Lanesborough at Hyde Park Corner, as a nurse. She visited France for 12 months in 1955 to learn French. Badminton career Smith was a winner of the All England Open Badminton Championships. She won the 1965 All England Open Badminton Championships women's singles. The Denmark Open, or formerly known as Danish Open, is an annual badminton tournament held in Denmark and organized by Badminton Denmark. The Denmark Open was part of the BWF Super Series Premier from 2011 to 2017. BWF categorised it as one of the five BWF World Tour Super 750 events per the BWF events structure since 2018. History The tournament started in 1936 and it is now the world's second oldest badminton tournament. It was interrupted by World War II and was on hiatus from 1956 through 1964. Swedish Open (badminton)
The Swedish Open is an open badminton tournament that is annually held since 2018, previously from 1956 to 2000 after which the organizer, Svenska Badmintonförbundet, could no longer find a suitable sponsor. To some extent it has been replaced by the Swedish International Stockholm tournament. Heather Maureen Ward (later Heather Nielsen; born October 1938) is a former English badminton player who won international championships and competed at an elite level during a two decade span from the mid-1950s to the mid-1970s. The All England Open Badminton Championships is the world's oldest badminton tournament, held annually in England. With the introduction of the BWF's latest grading system, it was given Super Series status in 2007, upgraded to Super Series Premier status in 2011, and designated a Super 1000 event at the birth of the World Tour in 2018. Heather Robson
Heather Jean Robson (née Redwood, 6 May 1928 – 11 October 2019) was a New Zealand badminton and tennis player. Early life and family Born on 6 May 1928 in Auckland, to Effie Redwood (née McLachlan) and John Addis Redwood, Robson was educated at St Cuthbert's College. In 1953 she married Jeffrey Ellis Robson, who also played international badminton for New Zealand. The couple went on to have one child. Sporting career Tennis In tennis Robson won both the New Zealand women's doubles and mixed doubles titles. She competed at Wimbledon twice, in 1954 and 1957.
