Ind Coope
Allied Breweries was the result of a 1961 merger between Ind Coope (of Burton), Ansells (of Birmingham), and Tetley Walker (of Leeds). In 1978, Allied Breweries merged with the food and catering group J. Lyons and Co to form Allied Lyons. The breweries business merged with Carlsberg in 1992 and became Carlsberg-Tetley, which is now part of Carlsberg Group, with Carlsberg-Tetley now known as Carlsberg UK. Ansells
Ansells Brewery was a regional brewery founded in Aston, Birmingham, England in 1858. It merged with Tetley Walker and Ind Coope in 1961 to form Allied Breweries. The brewery remained in operation until 1981, after which production transferred to Allied's Burton upon Trent brewery; some former employees later set up the Aston Manor Brewery. History The brewery was founded by Joseph Ansell, a hop merchant and maltster, in 1858 at Aston Cross on the site of several artesian wells (the later HP Sauce factory was adjacent). Britvic was a British producer of soft drinks based in Hemel Hempstead, England. It produced soft drinks under its own name, as well as several other brands. It was listed on the London Stock Exchange until it was acquired by Carlsberg Group and integrated into Carlsberg's UK operations as part of Carlsberg Britvic in January 2025. Peardrax, formerly Whiteway's Peardrax, is a pear-flavoured fizzy soft drink popular in Trinidad and Tobago. It originated in the United Kingdom, and was first manufactured by Whiteway's, a now-defunct cider company founded in Whimple, Devon during the 19th century. It became part of the conglomerate Allied Breweries in 1968, which merged into Allied Lyons in 1978, and eventually merged into Allied Domecq in 1994. Peardrax and Cydrax was discontinued in 1988, but its rights were acquired in 2004 by Gaymer Cider Company from Allied Domecq. Gaymer Cider Company was bought in 2010 by the C&C Group. Gaymer Cider Company
The Gaymer Cider Company produced and marketed cider. It has been owned by C&C Group since 2010. However, the Gaymer brand is no longer used and the business has been consolidated into the parent company. History It is unknown when the Gaymer family started selling cider. An advertisement in 1875 describes them as being "established upwards of two centuries", one of 1883 "established nearly two centuries", a 1961 newspaper report talks of "more than 300 years" and a modern bar towel has the phrase "established 1770" on it. One source states that in 1784 Robert Gaymer moved with his family from Starston to Banham (both are places in Norfolk), where he farmed "and produced the first identifiable Gaymer cider". Shepton Mallet is a market town and civil parishes in England, civil parish in Somerset, England, some southwest of Bath, Somerset, Bath, south of Bristol and east of Wells, Somerset, Wells. Babycham () is a light (6% ABV), sparkling perry invented by Francis Showering, a brewer in Shepton Mallet, Somerset, England. The name was owned by Accolade Wines until 2021, when it was bought back into the Showering family business Brothers Drinks Limited. The brand was particularly popular during the 1960s and 1970s. The new owners are planning a major rebrand and relaunch of the drink. History Francis Showering first submitted his new drink to the Three Counties Agricultural Show and other agricultural shows in the late 1940s and early 1950s where it was found to be popular.
