Imperial College Union
Imperial College Union is the Students' Union, students' union of Imperial College London. It is host to varied societies and has student bars situated around Albertopolis. The Union is based in the north wing of the Beit Quadrangle on Prince Consort Road. History The establishment of a students' union was recognised with the construction of the north building of Beit Quad in 1910-11 designed by Sir Aston Webb. The original idea for the building came from Arthur Dyke Acland, Sir Arthur Acland, a member of the governing body, who saw the need for a place for students to congregate and develop a collegiate social life. The National Union of Students (NUS) is a confederation of Students' union, student unions across the United Kingdom. Approximately 600 student unions are affiliated, accounting for more than 95% of all higher and further education unions in the UK. Although the National Union of Students is the central organization for all affiliated unions in the UK, there are also the devolved national sub-bodies: NUS Scotland in Scotland, NUS Wales (''UCM Cymru'') in Wales and NUS-USI in Northern Ireland (the latter being jointly administered by the Union of Students in Ireland). Peugeot Boxer
Peugeot (, , ) is a French automobile brand owned by Stellantis. The family business that preceded the current Peugeot companies was established in 1810, making it the oldest car company in the world. On 20 November 1858, Émile Peugeot applied for the lion trademark. Armand Peugeot (1849–1915) built the company's first vehicle, a steam-powered tricycle. In 1886, the company collaborated with Léon Serpollet, followed by the development of an internal combustion car in 1890, which used a Panhard- Daimler engine. Imperial College Gliding Club
Imperial College Gliding Club is the oldest, and one of the largest, university gliding clubs in the United Kingdom. Founded in 1930, the club was the second club to become affiliated to the British Gliding Association, and has for most of its life flown from Lasham Airfield in Hampshire. The club maintains an archive website where details of the club's history since 1930 are kept. Imperial College Boat Club
Imperial College Boat Club is the rowing club for Imperial College and has its boat house on the River Thames on the Putney embankment, London, United Kingdom. The alumni also run a boat club which is known as the Queen's Tower Boat Club and both crews occasionally row together as a composite in competition. The club has been home to numerous National Squad oarsmen and women and is open to students of Imperial College London. History The club was formed in 1919 and initially shared facilities with Thames Rowing Club but has had its own boathouse since 1938. The club has been successful in competitions, with many wins at Henley Royal Regatta including in 2013 with victory in The Prince Albert Challenge Cup event. El Salvador Project
''The El Salvador Reconstruction and Development Project'' is a charitable volunteer project from Imperial College London's Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering which was launched in reaction to two major earthquakes that struck the country of El Salvador in 2001. The project has a voluntary student membership basis and is concentrated in rural, mainly underdeveloped areas of the country. Team leadership and student involvement interchange on an annual basis with the start of a new academic year. The project is supported by a board of Alumni members. History As a result of the large magnitude earthquakes that killed at least 844 people, students from Imperial College London's Civil Engineering Department volunteered to work on a development project from 2002 onwards, to be concentrated in the country's poorest communities over subsequent academic years. Imperial College School of Medicine Students' Union (ICSMSU) is the students' union of the Imperial College School of Medicine. It is charged with representing and advocating for the educational, pastoral, social and extracurricular needs of all the undergraduate students within the Faculty of Medicine of Imperial College London, and is a constituent union of Imperial College Union. History ICSMSU was formed in 1997 by the mergers of the Students' Unions of St Mary's Hospital Medical School, Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School (formerly Charing Cross Hospital Medical School and Westminster Hospital Medical School), and the Royal Postgraduate Medical School. The Royal College of Science Union (RCSU) is a student union and science outreach organisation at Imperial College London which represents over 3,000 students in the university's Faculty of Natural Sciences. It manages the student societies for the departments of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Biology. The RCSU runs Science Challenge, a national science communication competition, and publishes the Broadsheet science magazine. History The RCSU was founded in 1881, following the creation of the Royal College of Science in the same year. City And Guilds College Union
The City and Guilds College Union represents students who are undertaking courses from the departments of Aeronautical, Chemical, Civil, Design, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering, together with Bioengineering and Computing at the college. Other students within the Faculty of Engineering are represented by the Royal School of Mines Students' Union. These follow the names of two of the three former 'Constituent Colleges' that formed Imperial in the early 20th century. The City and Guilds Union's name derives from the original City and Guilds College from which the faculty was formed. The union hosts an annual welcome dinner, and members of the union are traditionally known as Guildsmen and Guildswomen.
