Ilie Dumitrescu (; born 6 January 1969) is a former Romanian professional football manager and former player, who is currently a television sport pundit for Digi Sport. As a player, he was a winger who notably played in the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United, and in La Liga with Sevilla. Ilie Purcaru (5 November 1933 – 10 October 2008) was a Romanian journalist and poet, much of whose writing was in support of the Socialist Republic of Romania, communist regime. A native of the Oltenia region, he had an early debut in the Romanian Communist Party press, and was hailed as a child prodigy in the realm of poetry; trained as a conventional Socialist realism in Romania, Socialist realist, by the late 1950s he was trying to promote Constructivism (art), Neoconstructivism, but found himself repressed by Censorship in Communist Romania, communist censorship. Ilie Popa (July 20, 1907 – July 26, 1983) was a Romanian mathematician and Head of the Mathematical Analysis Department at the University of Iași. He is known for his contributions to differential geometry, mathematical analysis, and the history of mathematics. Biography Born in Iași, he attended the Costache Negruzzi High School in his native city. In 1927, he enrolled at the University of Iași, graduating in 1931. Upon graduation, he became an assistant professor at the Faculty of Science of the University of Iași and began his research activity under the guidance of his advisor, Alexander Myller. Ilie Pintilie (1903 – 10 November 1940) was a Romanian communist railroad worker and activist of the Romanian Communist Party (PCR). Born in Iași, Pintilie joined the labour movement as an apprentice at the CFR workrooms in Nicolina-Iași, and became a member of the then-outlawed PCR in 1926. In February 1933, as the Grivița Strike unfolded in Bucharest, he took part in organising railway strikes elsewhere (particularly in Iași and Pașcani) as a member of the national action committee. Between 1934 and 1937 he undertook important tasks in the leadership of CFR unions and was an active member of the anti-war movement, writing numerous articles in left-wing newspapers and magazines. Ilie Theodoriu Năstase (; born 19 July 1946) is a Romanian former professional tennis player. He was ranked as the inaugural world No. 1 in men's singles by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) for 40 weeks. Năstase is one of ten players to have won over 100 total ATP-level titles, with 64 in singles and 45 in doubles, among which seven majors: two in singles, three in men's doubles and two in mixed doubles. He also won four Masters Grand Prix year-end championships. He was the first professional sports figure to sign an endorsement contract with Nike, doing so in 1972. Ilie G. Murgulescu (Orodel, Cornu, 27 January 1902 – Bucharest, 28 October 1991) was a Romanian physical chemist and a communist politician. He was President (education), president of the Romanian Academy (1960–1963) and Minister of Education (1953–1956 and 1960–1963). He founded the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Romanian Academy where he presided until 1977. His investigations on physical chemistry covered a broad realm. Among his main results can be cited those he got on molten salts electrochemistry. He did doctoral work on Copper thiosulfate complex photochemistry under Fritz Weigert in Leipzig as adviser. Ilie Motrescu (18 August 1941 – 26 July 1969) was a Romanian writer and publicist in Soviet Ukraine. Born in Crasna Putnei, he became teacher of Romanian language and literature and later editor at the Romanian-language newspaper '' Zorile Bucovinei'' following his graduation from the Alecu Russo Pedagogical Institute in Bălți in 1964. He disappeared in the summer of 1969, having reportedly been killed by the KGB, and is today a martyr among the Romanian minority in Ukraine. Ilie Lazăr
Ilie Lazăr (born December 12, 1895, Giulești, Maramureș County - d. November 6, 1976 Cluj-Napoca) was a Romanian jurist and politician, a leading member of the National Peasants' Party in the interwar period and the right-hand man of Iuliu Maniu. Lazăr fought in World War I to release Cernăuți, then he and Moldavian troops participated in the liberation of Sighet, where he would be imprisoned 34 years later. He was firstly a member of the Romanian National Party and in 1928 he won the seat of deputy for the National Peasants' Party. In 1946, before the parliamentary elections, he was arrested by the communist authorities on charges of treason, was imprisoned for seven months. His wife, Maria Lazăr, won the seat of deputy in his place, proving his popularity. Ilie Iordache (born 23 March 1985 in București) is a Romanian former footballer who played as a midfielder, most recently for German club FC Holzhausen. Career Iordache started his professional career at CSM Reșița in 2003. Iordache was sold to Universitatea Craiova making there his debut on Liga I against Gloria Bistriţa.
