Iceland Airwaves
Iceland Airwaves is a music festival held annually in November in Reykjavík, Iceland, since 1999. Its main focus is showcasing new music, both Icelandic and international. Background The event is promoted and produced by Iceland Music Export and sponsored by its founder, Icelandair, in cooperation with the City of Reykjavík. In February 2018, the event managing company, Sena Live, bought the logo and all associated trademarks of Iceland Airwaves. History The first festival was held in October 1999 as a one-off event in an airplane hangar at Reykjavík Airport. In 2014, the event switched to being held in November. In 2018, 50% of the performers at Iceland Airwaves were female, making the festival one of the first to include gender equality in its lineup. In 2020 and 2021, the festival was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was held in 2022 and 2023, with a three-day schedule instead of four, as in previous years. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah is an indie rock band active since the early 2000s in and out of Philadelphia. The band was founded as a collaboration between singer-songwriter Alec Ounsworth, Sean Greenhalgh, Robbie Guertin, Lee Sargent, and Tyler Sargent. Ounsworth now performs under the name, as a solo artist. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah has released a total of six albums. Their self-titled debut album appeared in 2005 and their most recent, '' New Fragility'', in 2021. History Early work Ounsworth first started writing songs during high school, and by 2003 was playing small gigs and pursuing various opportunities to get his music heard. Hercules And Love Affair
Hercules and Love Affair is a dance music project created by American DJ, singer, composer, musician and producer Andy Butler in 2004. Consisting of a rotating cast of performers and musicians, the band work within the genres of house music, disco, techno and nu-disco. Originally based in New York City, now based in Ghent, Belgium, Hercules and Love Affair were founded following Butler's collaboration with Anohni to produce the song " Blind", which was a hit single and became ''Pitchfork''s song of the year. Hatari (band)
Hatari (; ) are an Icelandic techno, Industrial music, industrial and punk rock band and performance art group from Reykjavík. Their public image incorporates elements of anti-capitalism and BDSM attire. The band currently consists of Klemens Hannigan, Einar Stefánsson and Davíð Katrínarson, the latter of whom replacing original member Matthías Haraldsson in 2023. They have released an album and an extended play, encompassing several singles. GusGus is an electronic music band from Reykjavík, Iceland. Although initially a film and acting collective, the group is mostly known for its electronic music. The group's discography consists of twelve studio albums. History GusGus was initially formed in 1995 as a film and acting collective. The band's name refers to the 1974 German film '' Ali: Fear Eats the Soul'' () by Rainer Werner Fassbinder, where a female character is cooking couscous for her lover, pronouncing it ''Gusgus''. The Flaming Lips are an American psychedelic rock band formed in 1983 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The band currently consists of Wayne Coyne (vocals, guitars, bass, keyboards), Steven Drozd (guitars, bass, keyboards, drums, vocals), Derek Brown (keyboards, guitars, percussion), Matt Duckworth Kirksey (drums, percussion, keyboards) and Tommy McKenzie (bass). Norman Quentin Cook (born Quentin Leo Cook, 31 July 1963), also known as Fatboy Slim, is an English musician and DJ who helped popularise the big beat genre in the 1990s. His music makes extensive use of Sampling (music), samples from eclectic genres, combined with pop structures, processed rhythms and "sloganistic" vocals. In the 1980s, Cook was the bassist for the indie rock band the Housemartins, who achieved a UK number-one single with their cover of "Caravan of Love". After the Housemartins split, Cook moved to Brighton to pursue dance music. Efterklang () is a Denmark, Danish art pop, indie rock band from Copenhagen, formed in December 2000. Efterklang emerged in the front half of the 2000s with a blend of pop and orchestral rock elements.
