INTUC
Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) is a national trade union in India. It was founded on 3 May 1947 and is affiliated with the International Trade Union Confederation. According to provisional statistics from the Ministry of Labour, INTUC had a membership of 33.95 million in 2013, making it the largest Trade Union in India. Early years The foundation of INTUC on 3 May 1947 just 3 months before India attained independence. Acharya JB Kripalani, who was then President of the Indian National Congress inaugurated the Founding conference of INTUC. Trade Unions In India
Trade Unions in India are registered and file annual returns under the Trade Union Act (1926). Statistics on Trade Unions are collected annually by the Labour Bureau of the Ministry of Labour, Government of India. As per the latest data, released for 2012, there were 16,154 trade unions which had a combined membership of 9.18 million (based on returns from 15 States – out of a total of 28 States and 9 Union Territories). The Trade Union movement in India is largely divided along political lines and follows a pre-Independence pattern of overlapping interactions between political parties and unions. The net result of this type of system is debated as it has both advantages and disadvantages. Bindeshwari Dubey
Bindeshwari Dubey (14 January 1921 – 20 January 1993) was a freedom fighter, trade unionist and politician who served as Chief Minister of Bihar between 12 March 1985 and 13 February 1988. Dubey was involved in the nationalisation of Indian collieries, especially in the Chhotanagpur region that was then a part of Bihar (now Jharkhand). He held the portfolios of Law, Justice and Labour in the Union Council of Ministers in Rajiv Gandhi's cabinet. Earlier, he had held offices at state level as Minister of Education, Transport and Health. He was a member of the Seventh Lok Sabha between 1980 and 1984, representing the Giridih constituency in Bihar. He was a member of the Rajya Sabha from 1988 until his death. Nand Kishore Bhatt
Nand Kishore Bhatt (1919-2013) was an Indian politician. He was a Member of Parliament representing Madhya Pradesh in the Rajya Sabha the upper house of India's Parliament as member of the Indian National Congress. In his tribute read out in Rajya Sabha by the then vice president, Dr. Hamid Ansari, he was described as a distinguished parliamentarian, a veteran freedom fighter and a distinguished trade unionist. Ashoka Mehta
Asoka Mehta (24 October 1911, Bhavnagar – 10 December 1984, New Delhi) was an Indian freedom fighter and socialist politician. He helped organize the socialist wing Congress Socialist Party of the Indian National Congress, along with Rambriksh Benipuri, Jaya Prakash Narayan, and was heavily involved in the politics and government of the city of Bombay. Gopala Ramanujam
Gopala Ramanujam (1915–2001) was an Indian politician and co-founder of the Indian National Trade Union Congress. He was born on 28 May 1915 at Edircottal village, Ramanathapuram District in Tamil Nadu, India. He was a recipient of the third highest Indian civilian award of the Padma Bhushan. Trade Union He was trained in trade union work during 1945 to 1947 at the Hindusthan Mazdoor Sevak Sangh and Majur Mahajan, Ahmedabad, an institution founded by Mahatma Gandhi. Anant Prasad Sharma (25 December 1919 – October 1988) was an Indian Railway Union leader, politician who became Minister of State for Industry, and Union Minister of the government of India. Abid Ali Jaferbhai (1899/1900 - 26 June 1973) was a leader of Congress(I) from Bombay, Maharashtra. He became a member of the Bombay Legislative Council in 1947.
