3-Hydroxybenzaldehyde
3-Hydroxybenzaldehyde is an organic compound with the formula . It is a colorless solid although most samples appear tan. Two other isomers of hydroxybenzaldehyde exist. Preparation It has been prepared from 3-nitrobenzaldehyde in a sequence of nitro group reduction, diazotization of the amine, and hydrolysis. 3-hydroxybenzyl-alcohol dehydrogenase is an NADP-dependent enzyme that produces 3-hydroxybenzaldehyde from 3-hydroxybenzyl alcohol. Bio-medical properties 3-Hydroxybenzaldehyde exhibits vasculoprotective effects by lowering vascular smooth muscle cell proliferation and endothelial cells inflammation. 3-Hydroxybenzaldehyde is used in the synthesis of monastrol. Salicylaldehyde
Salicylic aldehyde (2-hydroxybenzaldehyde) is the organic compound with the formula (C7 H6 O2) C6H4CHO-2-OH. Along with 3-hydroxybenzaldehyde and 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde, it is one of the three isomers of hydroxybenzaldehyde. This colorless oily liquid has a bitter almond odor at higher concentration. Salicylaldehyde is a key precursor to a variety chelating agents, some of which are commercially important. Production Salicylaldehyde is prepared from phenol and chloroform by heating with sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide in a Reimer–Tiemann reaction: : Alternatively, it is produced by condensation of phenol or its derivatives with formaldehyde to give hydroxybenzyl alcohol, which is oxidized to the aldehyde. Salicylaldehydes in general may be prepared by other ortho-selective formylation reactions from the corresponding phenol, for instance by the Duff reaction, or by treatment with paraformaldehyde in the presence of magnesium chloride and a base. Phenolic Aldehyde
Phenolic aldehydes are derivatives of phenol. Phenolic aldehydes can be found in wines and cognacs. Examples : * Hydroxybenzaldehydes * Protocatechuic aldehyde * Vanillin and isovanillin Isovanillin is a phenolic aldehyde, an organic compound and isomer of vanillin. It is a selective inhibitor of aldehyde oxidase. It is not a substrate of that enzyme, and is metabolized by aldehyde dehydrogenase into isovanillic acid, which cou ... * 2,3,4-trihydroxybenzaldehyde can be isolated from '' Antigonon leptopus''.Health-Beneficial Phenolic Aldehyde in Antigonon leptopus Tea.
