Hurricane Saturday
''Hurricane Saturday'' is a one-off programming block of a three-way, two-hour crossover event on NBC which involved three television sitcoms created by Susan Harris: '' The Golden Girls'', ''Empty Nest'' and ''Nurses''. The event depicts a fictional hurricane storming into the storylines of the three series set in Miami, Florida. The episodes aired back-to-back on Saturday, November 9, 1991 from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. EST. Plot The event begins on ''The Golden Girls'' one-hour episode " The Monkey Show" (season 7, episodes 8 and 9) as a hurricane threatens Miami, Dorothy discovers that ex-husband Stan is "moving on" with her sister Gloria, while Blanche and Rose host a telethon to save a lighthouse. Susan Harris
Susan Harris (née Spivak; born October 28, 1940) is an American television writer and producer, creator of Emmy Award-winning sitcoms ''Soap'' (1977–1981) and ''The Golden Girls'' (1985–1992). Between 1975 and 1998, Harris was one of the most prolific television writers, creating 13 comedy series. In 2011, she was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame. Life and career The first script Harris sold was ''Then Came Bronson''. She then wrote for ''Love, American Style'', ''All in the Family'', ''The Partridge Family'' and the TV adaptation of Neil Simon's ''Barefoot in the Park''. Her abortion episode for the Bea Arthur-starring series '' Maude'' in the 1970s won Harris the Humanitas Prize. Arnetia Walker
Arnetia Walker is an American actress and singer, active since 1971. She played Nurse Annie Roland in the NBC sitcom ''Nurses'' from 1991 to 1994. Life and career Walker was born in Columbus, Georgia, Walker was very young when her mother died, and she never knew her father. She later moved to New York City and attended New York's prestigious High School of the Performing Arts when she was cast in her Broadway debut, ''The Sign in Sidney Brustein's Window'' by Lorraine Hansberry. She would later be Stephanie Mills's standby as Dorothy in the original Broadway run of ''The Wiz''.
