Hugo Mayo
Miguel Augusto Egas Miranda, better known by his pen name Hugo Mayo (November 24, 1895 in Manta – April 5, 1988 in Guayaquil , motto = Por Guayaquil Independiente en, For Independent Guayaquil , image_map = , map_caption = , pushpin_map = Ecuador#South America , pushpin_re ...), was an Ecuadorian avant-garde poet. He was the older brother of the poet José María Egas (1896–1982). Although he wrote most of his poetry while living in Guayaquil, he published most of his poetry outside of Ecuador, so he was not well known in his native country, but was regarded as one of the best poets of his time in other countries such as Argentina and Peru. His most celebrated book is ''El zaguán de aluminio'', which was first written in 1921 but published in 1982. Manta, Ecuador
Manta, also known as San Pablo de Manta, is an Ecuadorian city; cantonal head of the Manta Canton, as well as the largest and most populated city in the Manabí Province. It is the tenth most populous in the country. Manta has existed since Pre-Columbian times. It was a trading post for the Manta, also known as Manteños. According to the 2001 census, the city had 192,322 inhabitants. In the 21st century, its main economic activity is tuna fishing. Other economic activities include tourism and a chemical industry, with products ranging from cleaning supplies to oils and margarine. Located on the Pacific coast, Manta has the largest seaport in Ecuador. The port was used by Charles Marie de La Condamine upon his arrival in Ecuador in 1735 when leading the French mission to measure the location of the equator. José María Egas
José María Egas (Manta, 1896 - 1982) was an Ecuadorian poet. Many of his poems were turned into the lyrics of " pasillos". Egas studied law at the University of Guayaquil graduated in 1927. He was then active as a lawyer and journalist, but became best ko wn for his poetry, being appointed national poet laureate in 1976. He served as a professor at the University of Guayaquil.John D. Ecuadorian Male Poets
Ecuadorians ( es, ecuatorianos) are people identified with the South American country of Ecuador. This connection may be residential, legal, historical or cultural. For most Ecuadorians, several (or all) of these connections exist and are collectively the source of their being ''Ecuadorian''. Numerous indigenous cultures inhabited what is now Ecuadorian territory for several millennia before the expansion of the Inca Empire in the fifteenth century. The Las Vegas culture of coastal Ecuador is one of the oldest cultures in the Americas. The Valdivia culture is another well-known early Ecuadorian culture. Spaniards arrived in the sixteenth century, as did Black Ecuadorians, sub-Saharan Africans who were enslaved and transported across the Atlantic by Spaniards and other Europeans.
