Huelva International Film Festival
The Huelva Ibero-American Film Festival ( es, links=no, Festival de Cine Iberoamericano de Huelva), held since 1975 in Huelva, Spain, is the oldest film festival in Europe dedicated to the Ibero-American cinema. During the first editions, it was known as (). The festival was originally organised by a private entity, the Cine-Club Huelva. Upon the creation of the governing , and the ensuing constitution of the board of trustees, the festival is primarily funded by the , the Provincial Deputation of Huelva, the Junta of Andalusia and the Spanish Ministry of Culture, as well as a number of private donors. The festival is chiefly publicly funded. The grand prize is the 'Golden Columbus' () for best feature. Other awards include: best director, best male lead, best female lead, best script, best photography and best short film. Huelva
Huelva (, ) is a city in southwestern Spain, the capital of the province of Huelva in the autonomous community of Andalusia. It is between two short rias though has an outlying spur including nature reserve on the Gulf of Cádiz coast. The rias are of the Odiel and Tinto rivers and are good natural harbors. Humberto Solás
Humberto Solás (4 December 1941 – 18 September 2008) was a Cuban film director, credited with directing the film ''Lucía'' (1968), which explored the lives of Cuban women during different periods in Cuban history. His cinematic style borrows from Luchino Visconti's mise en scene and is permeated by sometimes heavy melodrama. He started making shorts at a very young age and directed his first medium length film ''Manuela'' in 1967. The success of this film led him to direct ''Lucía'', told in three stories in different moments of Cuban history, all seen through the eyes of a different woman named Lucia. Solás won 13 awards for filmmaking and been nominated for an additional nine. His 1968 film ''Lucía'' won the Golden Prize and the Prix FIPRESCI at the 6th Moscow International Film Festival.
