Hopewell is an unincorporated area, unincorporated community in Hillsborough County, Florida, Hillsborough County, Florida, United States. It lies at an elevation of above sea level. Hopewell is located along Florida State Road 60 at the intersection of Hillsborough County Road 39 and southern terminus of Florida State Road 39. History On May 14, 1883, George W. Wells established the Callsville post office. The population in 1883 was 200. In 1870, the Hopewell Baptist Church was built by early residents, and named after Hopewell, Alabama. The Warnell Lumber and Veneer Company built a railroad through Hopewell in the 1890s to haul logs. As the timber was cleared, it was replaced with citrus. The railroad was purchased by Florida Central and Peninsular Railroad, and in 1905 by the Seaboard Airline Railroad. Seaboard Airline Railroad
The Seaboard Air Line Railroad , which styled itself "The Route of Courteous Service," was an American railroad which existed from April 14, 1900, until July 1, 1967, when it merged with the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad, its longtime rival, to form the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad. Predecessor railroads dated from the 1830s and reorganized extensively to rebuild after the American Civil War. The company was headquartered in Norfolk, Virginia, until 1958, when its main offices were relocated to Richmond, Virginia. The Seaboard Air Line Railway Building in Norfolk's historic Freemason District still stands and has been converted into apartments. Florida Central And Peninsular Railroad
The Florida Central and Peninsular Railroad was the final name of a system of railroads throughout Florida, becoming part of the Seaboard Air Line Railway in 1900. The system, including some of the first railroads in Florida, stretched from Jacksonville west through Tallahassee and south to Tampa. Much of the FC&P network is still in service under the ownership of CSX Transportation. History The Tallahassee Rail Road was first organized in 1832 as the Leon Railway, changing its name in 1834. State Road 39 (SR 39) is a north–south state highway in eastern Pasco and Hillsborough County, Florida, United States. Between Plant City and Zephyrhills, the road is named Paul S. Buchman Highway. State Road 60 (SR 60) is an east–west route transversing Florida from the Gulf of Mexico to the Atlantic Ocean. The western terminus of SR 60 is at the ''Sunsets at Pier 60'' site in Clearwater Beach. The eastern terminus is in Vero Beach near the Atlantic Coast just past State Road A1A.
