Hope, Ontario
Hope is the northernmost community in the city of Vaughan, in Ontario, Canada. The community is mostly rural, with farms scattered along the major thoroughfare. The heart of the settlement is at Keele Street and Kirby Road, with its eastern side stretching as far as Bathurst Street. South of Hope are the communities of Teston and Maple. Recently, due to Vaughan's strong growth, its urban sprawl has had an effect on Hope, and its neighbouring communities as well. In the future urban plan for Maple, the North Maple Park is planned to meet the current heart of the community. Metrolinx Metrolinx is a Crown agency of the Government of Ontario that manages and integrates road and public transport in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA), which comprises much of Ontario's Golden Horseshoe region. Urban Sprawl
Urban sprawl (also known as suburban sprawl or urban encroachment) is defined as "the spreading of urban developments (such as houses and shopping centers) on undeveloped land near a city." Urban sprawl has been described as the unrestricted growth in many urban areas of housing, commercial development, and roads over large expanses of land, with little concern for urban planning. In addition to describing a special form of urbanization, the term also relates to the social and environmental consequences associated with this development. Medieval suburbs suffered from loss of protection of city walls, before the advent of industrial warfare. Modern disadvantages and costs include increased travel time, transport costs, pollution, and destruction of the countryside. Maple, Ontario
Maple is a neighbourhood in Vaughan, York Region, Ontario, Canada. It is located northwest of Toronto. Maple was founded as the village of Maple, located at the intersection of Major Mackenzie Drive and Keele Street. Geography Maple is located in the Golden Horseshoe of Southern Ontario. To the northeast of is the Oak Ridges Moraine, which supplies a lot of water to the Greater Toronto Area. The west branch of the Don River rises to the northwest and flows 1 km west of Maple. Several creeks are to the east and the Black Creek begins slightly west of Vellore. Humber River flows in the west, the Don River flows to the northern and the eastern part. Teston, Ontario
Teston is a suburban neighbourhood and former hamlet (place), hamlet located at the intersection of York Regional Road 49, Teston Road and Jane Street, in the City of Vaughan, Ontario, Vaughan, Ontario, at the northern edge of the city's developed area. The Teston United Church and some homes of early settlers are still standing to this day, but the rapid development of Vaughan has impacted the area in recent years. In early 2005, the Teston United Church was unsuccessfully relocated, meaning that lifting and flotation to an alternate site could not be accomplished. Parts of the church were distributed before it was completely demolished. The only visible remnants of the hamlet today run from Kleinberg to Keele Street, and continue east of Maple, eventually becoming Elgin Mills Road at Bathurst Street. York Regional Road 38
Bathurst Street is a main north–south thoroughfare in Toronto, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It begins at an intersection of the Queens Quay (Toronto), Queens Quay roadway, just north of the Lake Ontario shoreline. It continues north through Toronto to the Toronto boundary at Steeles Avenue. Keele Street
Keele Street is a north–south road in Toronto, Vaughan and King in Ontario, Canada. It stretches , running from Bloor Street in Toronto to the Holland Marsh. South of Bloor Street, the roadway is today known as Parkside Drive, but was originally part of Keele Street. It was renamed in 1921 by the City of Toronto. Most of Keele Street runs directly along a former concession road (Third Line West of Yonge Street) allowance. Keele Street was named for local businessman and farmer William Conway Keele, who lived in what is West Toronto Junction or Lambton Mills area. National Topographic System
The National Topographic System or NTS is the system used by Natural Resources Canada for providing general purpose topographic maps of the country. NTS maps are available in a variety of scales, the standard being 1:50,000 and 1:250,000 scales. The maps provide details on landforms and terrain, lakes and rivers, forested areas, administrative zones, populated areas, roads and railways, as well as other man-made features.
