Hooghly Branch Government School
Hooghly Branch Government School (or Hooghly Branch (Govt) School), established in 1834, is one of the oldest schools in West Bengal. It is located in Chawk Bazar, Hooghly, within the area of Hooghly-Chinsurah Municipality. The school is administered by the state government of West Bengal and admits only males. The School has two sessions, morning and day session. Students are taught from class 1 to class 12. The school's primary medium of instruction is Bengali and English is second language. However, on the higher secondary section, people are allowed to choose the medium of instruction as English. The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) came into existence in 1975. It is an autonomous examining authority, which is responsible for conducting examinations for standard XII for both government and private schools affiliated to this board. It is responsible for improvement and promotion of education in the state. Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay, alternatively spelt as Sarat Chandra Chatterjee ( bn, শরৎচন্দ্র চট্টোপাধ্যায়; 15 September 1876 or ৩১ শে ভাদ্র ১২৮৩ বঙ্গাব্দ – 16 January 1938), was a Bengali novelist and short story writer of the early 20th century. Bijan Kumar Mukherjea ( bn, বিজন কুমার মুখার্জী; 15 August 1891 – 22 February 1956) was the 4th Chief Justice of India. He was in his office from 22 December 1954 to 31 January 1956. Surajit Sengupta
Surajit Sengupta (30 August 1951 – 17 February 2022) was an Indian footballer who played as a winger. He played for the India national team, representing the country in the 1974 Asian Games in Tehran and the 1978 Asian Games in Bangkok. In a domestic career spanning twelve years between 1971 and 1983, he had represented all three of Calcutta's football clubs, Mohun Bagan FC, East Bengal FC, and Mohammedan Sporting FC, and was considered one of the finest forwards of his time. Sengupta won the IFA Shield and the Calcutta Football League six times each and the Durand Cup thrice while representing East Bengal FC.
