Honour Guard Battalion (Armenia)
The Honour Guard Company of the Ministry of Defense of Armenia ( hy, Հայաստանի Պաշտպանության նախարարության Պատվո պահքի գումարտակը) is a military unit of Armed Forces of Armenia that performs protocol tasks for high-ranking officials at the Presidential Palace and the Prime Minister's Residence. The unit is under direct command of the Ministry of Defense of Armenia. Most members of the unit are graduates of the Vazgen Sargsyan Military University. Overview The company was established on 18 January 1993. The unit's first major event was the funeral of Monte Melkonian in June 1993. The first official welcoming ceremony that the honour guard took part in was for the visit of Russian Defense Minister Pavel Grachev in 1994. Army Day ( hy, Բանակի օր) is a public holiday in Armenia and Republic of Artsakh celebrated on 28 January. It honors the troops of the Armed Forces of Armenia. Background In 1922, the soldiers stationed in the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic, as well as all units of the Soviet Army began to celebrate Defender of the Fatherland Day on 23 February, together with the entire Soviet Union. The Armed Forces of Armenia was formally established on 28 January 1992, by decree of President of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosyan, several months after declaration of independence from the Soviet Union. Commemorations Army Day was first celebrated in 2001, same year when the President of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan, signed Army Day into law as an official holiday and a non-working day. Exhibition drill is a variant of drill that involves complex marching sequences which usually deviate from drill used in the course of ordinary parades. Color Guard
In military organizations, a colour guard (or color guard) is a detachment of soldiers assigned to the protection of regimental colours and the national flag. This duty is so prestigious that the military colour is generally carried by a young officer ( Ensign), while experienced non-commissioned officers ( colour sergeants) are assigned to the protection of the national flag. Mother Armenia ( hy, Մայր Հայաստան ) is a female personification of Armenia. Her most public visual rendering is a monumental statue in Victory Park overlooking the capital city of Yerevan, Armenia. Mother Armenia statue in Yerevan The current statue replaces a monumental statue of General Secretary Joseph Stalin that was created as a victory memorial for World War II. During Stalin's reign of the Soviet Union, Grigor Harutyunyan, the first secretary of the Armenian Communist Party's Central Committee, and members of the government oversaw the construction of the monument which was completed and unveiled to the people on November 29, 1950.
