Hong Kong Marine Police
The Marine Region is a branch of the Hong Kong Police Force, more widely known as the Marine Police. The marine police patrol of waters within the territory of Hong Kong, including 263 islands. The Marine Region with about 3,000 officers, and a fleet of 142 in total, made up of 70 launches and 72 craft is the largest of any civil police force. Overview The Marine Region involves about 3,000 officers policing some 13,000 local craft and a total maritime population of 14,100. Hong Kong United Dockyard
Hongkong United Dockyards () abbreviated to United Dockyards () or HUD is a dockyard built on the site of the former Shek Wan or "Stone Bay" (), on Tsing Yi Island of Hong Kong. History HUD was formed in 1973 from the merger of the Hong Kong and Whampoa Dock (1863) and the Taikoo Dockyard (1902 or 1905). It is jointly owned by CK Hutchison and Swire. The HUD facilities in Tsing Yi replaced the Whampoa Dockyard in Hung Hom, which became the Whampoa Garden estate, and the Taikoo Dockyard in Quarry Bay, which became the Taikoo Shing estate. 2008 Summer Olympics Torch Relay
The 2008 Summer Olympics torch relay was run from March 24 until August 8, 2008, prior to the 2008 Summer Olympics, with the theme of "one world, one dream". Plans for the relay were announced on April 26, 2007, in Beijing, China. The relay, also called by the organizers as the "Journey of Harmony", lasted 129 days and carried the torch – the longest distance of any Olympic torch relay since the tradition was started ahead of the 1936 Summer Olympics. After being lit at the birthplace of the Olympic Games in Olympia, Greece on March 24, the torch traveled to the Panathinaiko Stadium in Athens, and then to Beijing, arriving on March 31. Shing Mun River Channel
The Shing Mun River or Shing Mun River Channel is a river in Sha Tin, Hong Kong. History The original Shing Mun River began at Needle Hill, and flowed into the former Tide Cove (Sha Tin Hoi), a shallow bay. In the 1970s, Tide Cove was reclaimed and turned to Sha Tin New Town. The river was extended through a 7 km long, 200 m wide artificial channel in the middle of the area to flow into Tolo Harbour. Other rivers that had originally flowed into Tide Cove are now tributaries of Shing Mun River in the form of concreted nullahs. The Shing Mun River channel runs from the Tai Wai area, through the Sha Tin town centre to the Tolo Harbour.
