Holy War (Kraków)
The Holy War ( pl, Święta Wojna, also Derby Krakowa) is a rivalry in Polish football between Wisła Kraków and KS Cracovia, the two biggest clubs in Kraków and reportedly the oldest in Poland, both founded in 1906. The term ''Holy War'' was coined by the defender from KS Cracovia, Ludwik Gintel. It is also the theme of a song devoted to their never-ending shenanigans, played by ''Andrusy''. Highlights The earliest extant records of the ''Holy War'' originate from the newspaper published on 20 September 1908 informing that the match played at Błonia Park between the two teams resulted in a 1:1 draw. Earlier matches were also reported, but their results are missing from archives of the local media. Wisła (; german: Weichsel; cs, Visla) is a town in Cieszyn County, Silesian Voivodeship, southern Poland, with a population of about 11,132 (2019), near the border with Czech Republic. Poland Ekstraklasa (), meaning "Extra Class" in Polish, named PKO Ekstraklasa since the 2019–20 season due to its sponsorship by PKO Bank Polski, is the top Polish professional league for men's association football teams. Contested by 18 clubs, operating a system of promotion and relegation with the I liga, seasons start in July, and end in May or June the following year. Teams play a total of 34 games each. Stadion Miejski im. Henryka Reymana ( en, Henryk Reyman's Municipal Stadium) is a football-specific stadium in Kraków, Poland. It is currently used as home ground by Wisła Kraków football team playing in the Ekstraklasa. The address of the stadium is Kraków, ul. Reymonta 22. The stadium has a capacity of 33,326 spectators, who are all seated, and is fully roofed. Wisła Stadium is the fourth largest arena in Ekstraklasa. Stadium was originally built in 1953. The 2022–23 I liga (also known as Fortuna I liga due to sponsorship reasons) is the 75th season of the second tier domestic division in the Polish football league system since its establishment in 1949 and the 15th season of the Polish I liga under its current title. The league is operated by the PZPN. The regular season is being played as a round-robin tournament. A total of 18 teams participate, 12 of which competed in the league campaign during the previous season, while three to be relegated from the 2021–22 Ekstraklasa and the remaining three to be promoted from the 2021–22 II liga. Polish SuperCup
The Polish Super Cup (, ) is an annually held match between the champions of the Ekstraklasa and the Polish Cup winners or, if the Ekstraklasa champions also win the Polish Cup, the Cup's runners-up. As of 2021, the Polish Super Cup has been played 31 times. The most successful club is Lech Poznań, who won 6 times. The most common participant are Legia Warsaw, as they played fourteen final games and have lost their eight following finals since 2012. Unlike in Polish Cup, there is no extra time played in the competition, therefore in case of a draw after regular time match goes straight into a penalty shoot-out.
