Holly Walker
Holly Ruth Walker (born 15 November 1982) is a former member of the New Zealand House of Representatives from 2011 to 2014, as a Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand, Green Party list MP. She is deputy Director of Helen Clark Foundation, The Helen Clark Foundation, and a writer and book reviewer. Early life Walker was born in Lower Hutt in 1982. She was raised by a mother on the Domestic Purposes Benefit and attended Waterloo School, Hutt Intermediate School and Hutt Valley High School, where she was deputy head girl. University and early political work From 2001 she studied at the University of Otago, graduating with a BA (Hons) in English and Politics, as well as winning a Blue for her achievements with the Otago University Debating Society. Party lists determine (in the light of country-wide proportional voting) the appointment of list MPs under the mixed-member proportional (MMP) representation electoral system. Emily Writes is the pen-name of a New Zealand parenting writer based in Wellington. She has published two books on parenting, one of which has been adapted as a play. Biography Writes published her first piece of writing on her blog in March 2015; she wrote about the difficulties of settling her newborn baby to sleep at 3 a.m. The post was immediately successful and she began to write more pieces about the struggles of parenting. 2014 New Zealand General Election
The 2014 New Zealand general election took place on Saturday 20 September 2014 to determine the membership of the 51st New Zealand Parliament. Voters elected 121 members to the House of Representatives, with 71 from single-member electorates (an increase from 70 in 2011) and 49 from party lists. Since 1996, New Zealand has used the Mixed Member Proportional (MMP) voting system, giving voters two votes: one for a political party and one for their local electorate MP. The party vote decides how many seats each party gets in the new Parliament; a party is entitled to a share of the seats if it receives 5% of the party vote or wins an electorate.
