Holland Municipal Stadium
Holland Municipal Stadium was a 5,322-seat American football stadium located in Holland, Michigan. Built in 1979, Hope College purchased Holland Municipal Stadium from the City of Holland in 2012 and renamed the facility, where the Flying Dutchmen play, Ray & Sue Smith Stadium. Ray & Sue Smith Stadium is also used regularly for high school football, including the hometown team, Holland High School. The stadium features two concession stands, restrooms, and a press box. It is adjacent to a municipal swimming pool; the stadium shares locker room facilities with the pool. Hope College built the adjacent Lugers Fieldhouse in 1991. The Flying Dutchmen's locker rooms are located there, as are locker rooms for other sports and a sports medicine center. American Football
American football (referred to simply as football in the United States and Canada), also known as gridiron, is a team sport played by two teams of eleven players on a rectangular field with goalposts at each end. Holland is a city in the western region of the Lower Peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan. It is situated near the eastern shore of Lake Michigan on Lake Macatawa, which is fed by the Macatawa River (formerly known locally as the Black River). The city spans the Ottawa/ Allegan county line, with in Ottawa and the remaining in Allegan. As of the 2010 census, the population was 33,051, with an urbanized area population of 113,164, . Hope College
Hope College is a private Christian liberal arts college in Holland, Michigan. It was originally opened in 1851 as the Pioneer School by Dutch immigrants four years after the community was first settled. The first freshman college class matriculated in 1862 and Hope received its state charter in 1866. Hope College is affiliated with the Reformed Church in America and retains a Christian atmosphere. Its campus is adjacent to the downtown commercial district and has been shared with Western Theological Seminary since 1884. Holland High School is a Division 1 public high school in Holland, Michigan. The schools colors are Red and white. The athletic nickname is "The Dutch". Campus The current facility was opened in 1962 on Van Raalte Avenue at a 10-12 facility. The campus consisted of seven buildings: East Unit, West Unit, Arts Center, Library and Administration, Fieldhouse, Industrial Arts and Performing Arts Center. The campus was previously at 96 W 15th st. Because the buildings were not connected, students went outside during class changes. Renovations in 1990 and 1991 connected all buildings except the Performing Arts Center and also added a building for Math and Science. Tulip Time Festival
Tulip Time Festival is an annual festival held in Holland, Michigan. Tulip festivals are held in many cities around the United States of America that were founded or largely inhabited by Dutch settlers. It has been held every year (except 2020) in mid-May since 1929 and is currently the longest running tulip festival in the United States. The festival currently runs from the first Saturday in May through the second Sunday. Activities at the celebration include three parades, fireworks, a Dutch Market, various shows and concerts, a craft fair, klompen dancing, and street scrubbing.
