Hobart Upjohn
Hobart Brown Upjohn (1876–1949) was an American architect, best known for designing a number of ecclesiastical and educational structures in New York and in North Carolina. He also designed a number of significant private homes. His firm produced a total of about 150 projects, a third of which were in North Carolina. He was born in New York City in 1876, a son of Richard M. Upjohn (1828–1903) and grandson of Richard Upjohn (1802–1878). He received a degree in mechanical engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology in 1899. He worked in his father's firm until 1903 and then opened his own practice in 1905. He entered a partnership with George W. Conable (1866–1933) in 1908. That partnership ended in 1914. One of the works produced by the partnership was the 1909 Rye Town Park-Bathing Complex and Oakland Beach, added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003. Katonah is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) within the town of Bedford, Westchester County, in the U.S. state of New York. The Katonah CDP had a population of 1,679 at the 2010 census. Scarsdale is a town and village in Westchester County, New York, United States. The Town of Scarsdale is coextensive with the Village of Scarsdale, but the community has opted to operate solely with a village government, one of several villages in the state that have a similar governmental situation. Scarsdale Woman's Club is a historic women's club located at Scarsdale, Westchester County, New York. It was built in 1858 and expanded and remodeled in 1872 in the Second Empire style. It was again expanded and remodeled in 1941 by Hobart Upjohn. The former residence is a -story wood-frame building, clad in stucco, with a prominent mansard roof covered in red and blue hexagonal slate tiles. It features a five-bay open front porch supported by square and Doric order columns. It was acquired by the Scarsdale Women's' Club in 1928 for use as a clubhouse.
