Higher State
Higher State is a dance record company and music publishing company founded in 1992 by house music producers and DJs Dillon & Dickins (Marc Dillon & Patrick Dickins) which incorporates the three record labels Higher State, 99 North and 99 Degrees. History Initially, all the releases were composed by Dillon & Dickins under different aliases, e.g. Disco Biscuit, Sound Environment, Upstate, 99 Allstars & Illicit. The first release not written by Dillon & Dickins (although they did produce many of the mixes) was in November 1997 when they released Johnny X "Call on Me" (catalogue numbers 12HIMP4 & CDHSD34), which was written by Leee John (ex-singer and member of 1980s band Imagination). This was followed in April 1998 with Spacebase "What Am I Gonna Do" (catalogue number 12HSD35), which they co-wrote with the singer on the track, Kate Cameron. Dance Music
Dance music is music composed specifically to facilitate or accompany dancing. It can be either a whole musical piece or part of a larger musical arrangement. Shawn Christopher is a female African-American house-music singer from Chicago, Illinois. Career She was a touring backing vocalist for R&B singer Chaka Khan, from 1982 to 1985. She was also a member of the industrial dance band known as My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult, and sang with the group Sonia Dada. She is the sister of the R&B singer, keyboardist and producer Gavin Christopher. She sang lead vocals on a song by DJ/producer Lil Louis titled "French Kiss" in 1989. Murk (band)
Murk (also known by several other names, including Funky Green Dogs) is a house-music production team composed of Ralph Falcón and Oscar Gaetan. It formed in Miami in 1991. The group had seven consecutive singles that topped Billboard's Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart. Career Murk is one of the most influential music label in house music history. It has a vast back catalog of compositions dating from the early 1990s, including "Some Lovin'", "Reach For Me", "Been a long time" and "Every Now and Then," and many newer tracks such as "Fired up!" (#80 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100), "The Way," "Dark Beat," "Doesn't Really Matter," and "Believe." Murk also performed as Funky Green Dogs. Rose Windross
Rose Windross originally began as a singer and songwriter in the UK reggae scene. She recorded her first album, ''Just Rose'', on the Ital Records label when she was still at school. Windross both wrote and recorded Soul II Soul's first single "Fairplay" for Jazzie B, which is featured on the album, '' Club Classics Vol. One''. In the US, although the single was pressed, "Fairplay" was never officially released as a single there, but it appeared on the B-side to the single "Feel Free". The Ones
The Ones are an American electronic dance music group. Their 2001 hit single " Flawless" peaked within the top ten of the charts in Belgium and the United Kingdom. The trio consisted of three male vocalists Paul Alexander, JoJo Americo, and Nashom Wooden, who met while working at the Greenwich Village boutique Patricia Field. Each of them has a background in performing, DJing, and being stylists within the underground New York club and fashion scenes. Their debut single, "Flawless", was inspired by the 1999 film, which Nashom appeared in alongside Robert De Niro. It was first released on the New York based A Touch of Class Recordings label, and was popular among New York DJs even before its official release. Guerilla Records
Guerilla Records was a British record label that was founded in 1990 by Dick O'Dell and John Gosling, with William Orbit. It specialised in a style of progressive house that they preferred to call "dub house", with artists such as Leftfield, Bass-O-Matic, React2Rhythm, Spooky (house music duo), Spooky, Moody Boyz, Felix Da Housecat, and Billie Ray Martin, and was a key player in the development of the progressive house sound in the UK in the early 1990s. The label's distinctive blue camouflage generic sleeve was designed by graphic designer Steven Cook, Steve Cook, known for his design and art direction of the British comic 2000 AD (comic), 2000 AD.
