Herlev Hornets
The Herlev Hornets were a Denmark, Danish professional ice hockey team playing in the top Danish ice hockey league Oddset Ligaen, AL-Bank Ligaen. The team is located in the Copenhagen suburb of Herlev. In 2011, the team returned to the top Danish league following a two-year hiatus due to financial problems. The team's new moniker is Eagles, having previously been known as Hornets. The team is coached by Finn Juha Riihijärvi. Following the team's return to the top flight in Danish hockey, former Herlev players and Denmark men's national ice hockey team, Danish national team players Kim Staal, Thor Dresler and Frederik Storm returned to play for the team. Frederik Storm
Frederik Storm (born 20 February 1989) is a Danish professional ice hockey player currently playing for Kölner Haie of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL). He participated at the 2011 IIHF World Championship as a member of the Denmark men's national ice hockey team. On 2 November 2016, Storm agreed to a three-year contract extension to remain with the Malmö Redhawks of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL). Matthew Yeats
Matthew Yeats (born April 6, 1979) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey goaltender. He played five games in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Washington Capitals during the 2003–04 season. The rest of his career, which lasted from 2002 to 2009, was spent in the minor leagues and then in Europe. Playing career Originally drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, Yeats was signed in 2003 as a free agent by the Portland Pirates, and then later the Washington Capitals, he played five games for the Capitals near the end of the 2003–04 season. Kai Nurminen
Kai Ilmari Nurminen (born March 29, 1969) is a Finnish former professional ice hockey forward, who last played with Herlev Hornets in the Danish Oddset Ligaen. Career Nurminen started and played most of his ice hockey career with TPS in SM-liiga. He has also played for two seasons in the Swedish Elitserien. During the 1994–1995 season, he played successfully with Esa Keskinen for HV71, together making up a fearsome duo. For the 1996–97 season, he was contracted by Los Angeles Kings in NHL. After only one season in NHL with 67 matches played (scoring 16 goals and 11 assists) he returned to Scandinavia. In the 2000–01 season, he played two games for the Minnesota Wild and registered one goal. Nurminen also played for HPK and Jokerit in SM-liiga; HC Davos in Nationalliga A; and Frölunda HC and HV71 in Elitserien. Nurminen won the Finnish Championship twice. Mikko Niemi (ice Hockey)
Mikko Niemi (born June 17, 1972 in Tampere, Finland) is a retired Finnish professional ice hockey player. Career Niemi began his career at junior level icing for his local team Ilves Tampere at junior A SM-liiga standard, the highest level of junior ice hockey. In his first season, 1989/90 he featured in 34 games, and helped out the offence with six points. This pushed Ilves into the post-season, where Niemi played on three occasions and also managing his first post-season point. Niemi was a cornerstone of the junior team, playing more than 60 times throughout the 1990/91 and 1991/92 seasons, again making the post-season in 1992 where he scored his first playoff goal. Nichlas Hardt (born 6 July 1988) is a Danish professional ice hockey Forward who currently plays for the Linköpings HC of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL). Playing career Hardt was selected Rookie of the Year in the Danish ice hockey league in 2007, where he represented the Herlev Hornets. Despite his relatively small stature, Hardt is known for his physical style of play, throwing many hits while being a relentless forechecker. Kim Staal
Kim Staal (born March 10, 1978) is a Danish former professional ice hockey forward, who last played with Herlev Eagles. Despite his surname, he is not related to the Staal family of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada, which consists of hockey playing brothers Eric, Marc, Jordan and Jared, who are Canadians of Dutch descent. Playing career Staal was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens as their fourth-round pick in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft. He spent his early professional career in the Swedish elite league, playing for Malmö IF and Modo Hockey.
