Henry T. Weinstein
Henry T. Weinstein (July 12, 1924, Brooklyn, New York City, United States – September 17, 2000, Boca Raton, Florida, United States) was an American film producer. Biography Born and raised in Brooklyn, Weinstein graduated from City College of New York and earned a master's degree in drama from Carnegie Institute of Technology. He began his theatre work as a director at playhouses in Falmouth and Norwich, and was the stage manager for '' The Innocents'' on Broadway. Weinstein was the general manager of the Falmouth Playhouse on Cape Cod for two years, at which he premiered '' A View from the Bridge'' by Arthur Miller, before joining Philip Langner as co-manager in 1958 at the Westport Country Playhouse. Weinstein and Langner packaged shows for the summer stock theatre circuit. When Langner left in 1959, Weinstein brought in Laurence Feldman, whom he had worked with on the Theatre Fund, as co-producer and partner. American Film Theatre
From 1973 to 1975, using approximately 500 movie theaters across the US, The American Film Theatre presented two seasons of film adaptations of well-known plays. Each film was shown only four times at each theatre. By design, these were not films of stage productions — they were plays "translated to the film medium, but with complete faithfulness to the original play script." Filmgoers generally subscribed to an entire season of films, as they might if they purchased a season's tickets for a conventional stage theater. About 500,000 subscriptions were sold for the first season of eight plays using direct mail and newspaper advertising. Ely Landau was the producer for the series. ''Butley'' is a 1974 American-British drama film directed by Harold Pinter and starring Alan Bates, Jessica Tandy, Richard O'Callaghan, Susan Engel, and Michael Byrne. It is an adaptation from Simon Gray's 1971 play of same name. It was produced by Ely Landau and released through Landau's American Film Theatre. Plot The title character, a literature professor and longtime T. S. Eliot scholar with a recently developed interest in Beatrix Potter, is a suicidal alcoholic, who loses his wife and his male lover on the same day. Written by Stevan Bulajić and Veljko Bulajić, and directed by Veljko Bulajić, it is based on the true events of World War II. The Battle of the Neretva was due to a strategic plan for a combined Axis powers attack in 1943 against the Yugoslav Partisans. The plan was also known as the Fourth Enemy Offensive and occurred in the area of the Neretva river in Bosnia and Herzegovina. ''Battle of Neretva'' is the most expensive motion picture made in the SFR Yugoslavia.
