Henry Brouncker (died 1607)
Henry Brouncker (c. 1550 – 3 June 1607), of Erlestoke, Wiltshire and West Ham, Essex, was an English politician whose later career was spent in Ireland. He was born in Wiltshire, a younger son of Henry Brouncker of Melksham and Erlestoke and his second wife Ursula Yate. He was a Member (MP) of the Parliament of England for Westbury in 1572, for Devizes in 1584, 1586 and 1589, and for Dorchester in 1601. He saw military service in Ireland, and went on a diplomatic mission to Scotland in 1601, where he was well received, being described as a man who was "true and wise". He was knighted in 1597. After the accession of King James I, he was in favour at Court, being listed as one of those who had the right of unrestricted access to the Privy Chamber. He became Lord President of Munster in 1603: he died in that office and was buried in St. Mary's Church, Cork. Erlestoke
Erlestoke is a village and civil parish in Wiltshire, England, on the northern edge of Salisbury Plain. The village lies about east of Westbury and the same distance southwest of Devizes. Erlestoke Prison, the only prison in Wiltshire, is within the parish. History The ancient parish of Erlestoke was a chapelry of Melksham. The Crown was lord of the manor of Erlestoke; the first recorded grant of land was by Henry I in the 12th century. From the 16th until the early 18th the Brouncker family held land at Erlestoke, including Henry Brouncker, a Member of Parliament in the 16th and early 17th. Later owners included Peter Delmé, an 18th-century MP; Joshua Smith (1732–1819), MP for Devizes; and George Watson-Taylor (1771–1841), also MP for Devizes. Cork (city)
Cork ( , from , meaning 'marsh') is the second largest city in Ireland and third largest city by population on the island of Ireland. It is located in the south-west of Ireland, in the province of Munster. Following an extension to the city's boundary in 2019, its population is over 222,000. Viscount Brouncker
Viscount Brouncker, of Lyons in the Province of Leinster, was a title in the Peerage of Ireland. It was created on 12 September 1645 for the courtier Sir William Brouncker. He was made Baron Brouncker, of Newcastle in the Province of Munster, at the same time, also in the Peerage of Ireland. He was succeeded by his eldest son William, the second Viscount. William was a distinguished mathematician, who was the first President of the Royal Society and also held political office. He was unmarried and was succeeded by his younger brother Henry, the third Viscount. Henry served as Cofferer of the Household between 1680 and 1685, but was universally detested as being "false, hard and covetous". He was childless and the titles became extinct on his death in 1688.
