Henk Jonker
Hendrik Peter "Henk" Jonker (Berkhout, 23 November 1912 – Amsterdam, 24 September 2002) was a Dutch photographer. During World War II, he documented the impact of the German occupation of the Netherlands and after the war he started a press agency. Praised for portraying "ordinary people and small moments", his work appeared internationally in publications such as ''Time'' and '' Der Spiegel'' and was included in the 1955 exhibition ''The Family of Man''; particularly notable are his photographs taken during the North Sea Flood of 1953. Biography Born in Berkhout, a small town in West Friesland, Jonker moved to Amsterdam at the age of 13. During World War II, he had a job at the Amsterdam office for resident registration and got involved with the Dutch resistance. Berkhout
Berkhout is a village in the northwest Netherlands. It is in the municipality of Koggenland, North Holland, about west of Hoorn. History The village was first mentioned around 1312 as Berchout, and means "deciduous forest of birch (''Betula'') trees". Berkhout developed in the 13th century as a peat excavation village. The Dutch Reformed church is a T-shaped church in Renaissance Revival style built in 1884. The tower was added in 1886. Berkhout was home to 766 people in 1840. It was an independent municipality until 1979 when it was merged into Wester-Koggenland. The World Press Photo of the Year award is part of the World Press Photo Awards, organized by the Dutch foundation World Press Photo. ''Margriet'' is a Dutch weekly magazine for women of all ages, which publishes articles on fashion, beauty, health, nutrition, relationships, and society. Cruquius () is a village in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Haarlemmermeer and lies about 4 km northwest of Hoofddorp. Wormerveer
Wormerveer is a town in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Zaanstad, and lies about 13 km northwest of Amsterdam. Wormerveer developed in the 15th century on the west bank of the Zaan river. It started to industrialise with windmills in the 17th century, however none of the windmills exist any more. The Dutch Reformed church was built in 1639 to replace the medieval church which was destroyed in 1574 by Spanish troops.
