Harøya
Harøya is a swampy island in Ålesund Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. At , it is the largest island in the municipality. The island is located between the islands of Finnøya (to the northeast) and Fjørtofta (to the southwest). Steinshamn, the municipal center, is located at the north end of the island where there is a causeway connecting it to the neighboring island of Finnøya. The village of Myklebost is located at the south end of the island, where there are ferry connections to Dryna (in Midsund) and Brattvåg and Fjørtofta (in Haram). Harøy Church is located in the center of the island, just north of the Lomstjønna Nature Reserve. The new Nordøyvegen bridge and tunnel project will connect the island of Harøy to the mainland when it is completed. Harøy Church
Harøy Church ( no, Harøy kyrkje) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Ålesund Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is located in the central part of the island of Harøya, just north of the Lomstjønna Nature Reserve. It is one of the two churches for the Sandøy parish which is part of the Nordre Sunnmøre prosti ( deanery) in the Diocese of Møre. The white, wooden church was built in a long church design in 1934 using plans drawn up by the architects Fredrik Ziegler Kavli and Paul S. Michelsen. The church seats about 340 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to 1589, but it was described as an old, dilapidated building at that time. Lomstjønna Nature Reserve
The Lomstjønna Nature Reserve ( no, Lomstjønna naturreservat) is located on Harøya island in the municipality of Ålesund in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The area received protection in 1988 "to preserve an important wetland area with associated plant communities, bird life and other wildlife," according to the conservation regulations. The reserve is based around a pond named Lomstjørna (a.k.a. Lomstjønna), located in a hilly and nutrient-poor bog landscape that is flat and uniform. The area encompasses the main pond, the bog, and several small ponds, and it forms a representative part of this landscape type on the island. Several bird species that prefer coastal heaths nest here: the greylag goose, European golden plover, sandpipers, and gulls. There are also some ducks and some special species such as the red-necked phalarope and Lapland longspur. Myklebost, Sandøy
Myklebost or Myklebust is a village on the southern end of the island of Harøya in Ålesund Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The village is about south of the municipal center of Steinshamn. There are ferry connections from Myklebost to Fjørtofta and Brattvåg in Haram Municipality and to Dryna in Midsund Municipality. Nordøyvegen
Nordøyvegen () is a road that connect the northern islands of Ålesund (formerly in Haram Municipality and Sandøy Municipality) to the mainland in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. This road was opened in 2022 and replaced several ferry crossings and costed around . It provides a faster, ferry-free connection to the mainland for the approximately 3,000 residents of the islands. The road is partly financed by a toll station at the Lepsøy, as of 2022 costing 219 NOK per direction for cars. The project includes crossing four fjords with tunnels and bridges and upgrading and re-routing roads on the islands to meet national standards. A total of seven islands is connected to the mainland using two existing bridges and by building three new bridges, a causeway using fill, and three undersea tunnels. Fjørtofta is an island in Ålesund Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The island is located in the northern part of the municipality, between the islands of Flemsøya, Harøya, and Midøya and Dryna (both in Molde Municipality). Haram is a former municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It was part of the Sunnmøre region. The administrative center was Brattvåg, the industrial center of Sunnmøre.
