''Hair'' is the cast recording of the original, Off-Broadway cast of the musical '' Hair: An American Tribal Love-Rock Musical''. It was released in 1967 by RCA Victor. ''Hair'' premiered Off-Broadway at the Public Theater on October 17, 1967, and the cast album was recorded two weeks later. James Alexander Radomski (January 23, 1932 – June 21, 2022), known professionally as James Rado, was an American actor, playwright, director, and composer, best known as the co-author, along with Gerome Ragni, of the 1967 musical ''Hair''. Cheetah (nightclub)
Cheetah was a nightclub located at 1686 Broadway near 53rd Street in Manhattan, New York City. The club opened on May 28, 1966, and closed in the 1970's. The financial backing was provided by Borden Stevenson, son of politician Adlai Stevenson, and Olivier Coquelin. Robert Hilsky and Russell Hilsky were associated with the club. According to Steven Watson's ''Factory Made: Warhol and the Sixties'', it "was the granddaddy of the big commercial disco". Context in the musical The musical’s title song begins as character Claude slowly croons his reason for his long hair, as tribe-mate Berger joins in singing they "don't know." They lead the tribe, singing "Give me a head with hair," "as long as God can grow it," listing what they want in a head of hair and their uses for it. Later the song takes the tune of "The Star-Spangled Banner" with the tribe punning "Oh say can you see/ My eyes if you can/Then my hair’s too short!" Claude and Berger’s religious references continue with many a "Hallelujah" as they consciously compare their hair to Jesus’s, and if Mary loved her son, "why don’t my mother love me?" Arthur Terence Galt MacDermot (December 18, 1928 – December 17, 2018) was a Canadian-American composer, pianist and writer of musical theater.
