Howard Marklein
Howard L. Marklein (born October 3, 1954) is an American Republican politician and retired accountant and fraud examiner from Sauk County, Wisconsin. He is a member of the Wisconsin Senate, representing Wisconsin's 17th Senate district since 2015; he was president pro tempore of the Senate from 2017 through 2021, and is now the Senate co-chair of the Legislature's influential Joint Finance Committee. Previously, he served four years in the Wisconsin State Assembly, representing the 51st Assembly district. Early life and education Howard Marklein was born in Madison, Wisconsin, and raised on a dairy farm in rural Spring Green, where he continues to reside. He graduated from River Valley High School in 1972 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in accounting at the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater in 1976. Wisconsin Legislature
The Wisconsin Legislature is the state legislature of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The Legislature is a bicameral body composed of the upper house, Wisconsin State Senate, and the lower Wisconsin State Assembly, both of which have had Republican majorities since January 2011. University Of Wisconsin–Whitewater
The University of Wisconsin–Whitewater (UW–Whitewater or UWW) is a public university in Whitewater, Wisconsin. It is part of the University of Wisconsin System. Student enrollment in the 2014–2015 academic year was more than 12,000. The university offers 47 undergraduate majors and 13 graduate programs. 2022 Wisconsin Senate Election
The 2022 Wisconsin Senate elections were held on Tuesday, November 8, 2022. Seventeen of the 33 seats in the Wisconsin State Senate were up for election—the odd-numbered districts. This was the first election to take place after redistricting following the 2020 United States census. This was the only election to take place under the redistricting plan set out in 2022. The 2018 Wisconsin Senate elections were held on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, at the Fall general election in Wisconsin. Seventeen of the 33 seats in the Wisconsin Senate were up for election—the odd-numbered districts. Before the election, Republicans held 18 seats and Democrats held 15 seats. Wisconsin Elections Commission
The Wisconsin Elections Commission is a bipartisan regulatory agency of the State of Wisconsin established to administer and enforce election laws in the state. The Wisconsin Elections Commission was established by a 2015 act of the Wisconsin Legislature which also established the Wisconsin Ethics Commission to administer campaign finance, ethics, and lobbying laws. The two commissions began operation on June 30, 2016, replacing the Wisconsin Government Accountability Board (GAB), which was abolished. The Government Accountability Board had been established in 2008 to replace the Wisconsin Elections Board and Wisconsin Ethics Board. The Wisconsin Government Accountability Board (G.A.B.) was a regulatory agency for the State of Wisconsin which administered and enforced Wisconsin law pertaining to campaign finance, elections, ethics and lobbying. The agency was re-organized, over the opposition of many Democratic legislators, into two separate agencies (Ethics and Elections Commissions) following several controversies.
