Horst D. Simon
Horst D. Simon (born August 8, 1953) is a computer scientist known for his contributions to high-performance computing (HPC) and computational science. He is director of ADIA Lab in Abu Dhabi, UAE and editor of TOP500. Early life and education Simon was born on August 8, 1953, in Stadtsteinach, Germany. From 1963 to 1972, he attended a high school in Germany, Markgraf-Georg-Friedrich Gymnasium Kulmbach. He completed his undergraduate studies at Technische Universität Berlin from 1973 to 1976. Simon joined University of California, Berkeley in 1976 from where he studied Masters of Mathematics from 1976 to 1977 and graduated with PhD in Mathematics in 1982. Jack Dongarra
Jack Joseph Dongarra (born July 18, 1950) is an American computer scientist and mathematician. He is a University Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Computer Science in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department at the University of Tennessee. He holds the position of a Distinguished Research Staff member in the Computer Science and Mathematics Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Turing Fellowship in the School of Mathematics at the University of Manchester, and is an adjunct professor and teacher in the Computer Science Department at Rice University. Hans Meuer
Hans Meuer was a professor of computer science at the University of Mannheim, managing director of Prometeus GmbH and general chair of the International Supercomputing Conference. In 1986, he became co-founder and organizer of the first Mannheim Supercomputer Conference, which has been held annually but known as the International Supercomputing Conference since 2001. Meuer served as specialist, project leader, group and department chief during his 11 years at the Jülich Research Centre, Germany. NAS Parallel Benchmarks (NPB) are a set of benchmarks targeting performance evaluation of highly parallel supercomputers. They are developed and maintained by the NASA Advanced Supercomputing (NAS) Division (formerly the NASA Numerical Aerodynamic Simulation Program) based at the NASA Ames Research Center. Moffett Federal Airfield , also known as Moffett Field, is a joint civil-military airport located in an unincorporated part of Santa Clara County, California, United States, between northern Mountain View and northern Sunnyvale. Lanczos Algorithm
The Lanczos algorithm is an iterative method devised by Cornelius Lanczos that is an adaptation of power iteration, power methods to find the m "most useful" (tending towards extreme highest/lowest) eigenvalues and eigenvectors of an n \times n Hermitian matrix, where m is often but not necessarily much smaller than n . Although computationally efficient in principle, the method as initially formulated was not useful, due to its Numerical stability, numerical instability. In 1970, Ojalvo and Newman showed how to make the method numerically stable and applied it to the solution of very large engineering structures subjected to dynamic loading.
